I agree. This will happen. This is a new regime that does NOT have to win from day one. They are going with the guy who has a future in this league, however minimal that might be. And if it doesn't work, bring in the next guy.

Not entirely accurate as they are mandated to spend 89% of the cap by 2016. And if you happened to watch any games last year, it shouldn't surprise you at all the secondary needed help. Revis always wanted to return so this is the result.
Keep in mind this team went to 2 championship games with Sanchez.

I do have in mind the championship games they went to with Sanchez and that's why I'm thinking they aren't going thru anymore growing pains with Geno. This team just paid big for 30 year old Revis and brought in 31 year old Marshall. This is a veteran team. If Geno comes in and wins the job then that's great we have a QB going forward, if not then they will go with the vet and hope they catch lightning in the bottle.

People, HYATT™ has demonstrated time and again his bona fides in player assessment, so trust what he has to say on this matter.
Get over Mr. Smith, there is no redeeming him as an NFL starting QB - not this year, not ever.
Never had it, never will.
A THOUSAND guys can do what Geno Smith has done in the NFL, and ALL of them are NOT in the NFL - for good cause.
Would a single one of you even be considering this ludicrous idea if he had been drafted in Rd 6 or Rd 7, where he belonged? (If that - UDFA is more like it.)

There is no "3rd year" magic number for QBs to "get it", either they have it or they don't.
They can LEARN to be journeymen, which is entirely possible, but journeymen do NOT start and do not carry teams to winning seasons.
At best, they go along for the ride on a team that wins in spite of them - which was the case with Dirty Snatchez.
The very premise of the o.p. is wrong, thus the argument, being based on a logical fallacy, has no merit for consideration.

The problem I see is that posters on this board are evaluating geno on random flashy games. How you evaluate him is on his skill and how he approaches the game. He is footballs version of a simpleton! He is probably intelligent like any of us, but nfl wise, he stares down receivers regardless of chemistry, which is why he is so easy to pick off. He also takes forever to see a defense which results in him holding it like his blanky. Out of 30ish games, he had looked competent in a handful of meaningless games against defenses that aren't trying.
The guy just doesn't have the instincts or the quick recognition needed.

I believe you are correct that many fans write off players too soon. With that said I am not a big Geno fan and do not think he beats out Fitz for the job. If he does great I will root like crazy for him. I much prefer a younger QB.

Damn, because of all the hatred alone I'm starting to want Geno to prove all you guys wrong (including myself) and show he can be a very good QB at the least (our QB). He is 24 yrs old and played with Rex Ryan and under the management of John Idzik. That is probably the two worst combinations of anyone you can put together to manage and coach a team. He finally has a regime here that knows what the hell their doing, cares about the QB development and getting him some weapons and actually knows how to win. Seems were stuck with Geno anyway for at least one more year so let's hope for the best and try to be in the kids corner here. Beside, he will beat out Fitzgerald and any rookie we draft besides Winston or (maybe) Mariota so it is what it is people.
