I don't think anyone is complaining about cutting Boyle or signing Rypien. The problem is what JD put together in the QB room. Its insane.
He had WAY too much faith in Wilson. I think the franchise still held onto the belief that Zach could be salvaged, and that Rodgers being here would be the key.

Well, today Saleh announces the starter for Sunday. It can't be Zach, imagine the effect on team morale when your QB is not only incompetent but has to be dragged kicking and screaming onto the field.

So it will probably be 'The Chimp' on a very short leash, with Rypien expected to appear by halftime.

Remember they wanted to get this QB earlier this season but were blocked in doing so. Now that he is available this move was inevitable. Expect Rypien to be added to the active roster IF AR is deemed not ready. Siemian to start with Rypien as number two. Boyle may end back on the practice squad.
Boyle should never be on another NFL roster.

My son watches the practice squad moves and says that they do move linemen on and off the practice squad

they may look like idiots, but JD is trying. No way him and Saleh don’t know the line sucks, but shy of over paying for a top guy earlier this year(if there were any available), not much they can do. Join the Jets, get injured
While it's true that JD is constantly adding and subtracting O Lineman from the PS. It's unfortunately the same 3 players. Hanson at center repeatedly dropped and resigned, and Newman Johnson and Glaser replacing one another every few days. Repeatedly. Isn't that the definition of insanity? If these guys can't compete, add some different bodies to the mix. Then maybe it's fair to Say that JD is trying. Right now he is juggling a c and 2 guards almost daily.

They really did believe that Zach was the long term future QB. Fully expecting him to lead this team to championships after Rodgers retires. May still be hoping that is the case.

If that's the case then he isn't doing jack shit! He playing games to make it look like he is doing something! Maybe he should get off of the line at fat burger and go do his damn job!!!

Truthfully, I never thought he would be as horrible as he has been in a backup role. Granted, his role changed four plays into the season, which is so Jets. But still...

Who was available that the Jets could have gotten that would truly help the Jets' OL? I think there is some misguided belief that there are All Pro linemen who are perfect fits for the Jets, and they're just sitting at home waiting for Joe's phone call.

As someone who has played the game, and coached the game, I will say there are certain things that I look for first and foremost in a QB and unfortunately it is extremely difficult to train (most who can't do it, never can). The way I always evaluate is

1. Ability to read a defense
2. Ability to anticipate a throw
3. Arm strength
4. Athleticism

It is literally in that order. If you can't do #1, I won't both to evaluate 2 --> 4. #1 & #2 are the most important and what makes a player an actual QB. Unfortunately Zach does not have these skills and never has, and has shown no ability to develop in that realm.

This is not something that has improved over the past 3 years, it's the same as it was when he was a rookie. Off script works for him because he can run around and look for the open player, but he simply has issues reading defenses, looking off defenders, and making any timing and rhythms throws.

I didn't see these traits in his highlight reels from college and didn't like the pick from day 1. That being said, here we are three seasons later and Zach still looks like the same player that came out of college three years ago.

Hindsight is always 20/20 but honestly, if we take a look at all of the OL who were drafted after our picks, were they all busts? This goes back to poor talent evaluation, and honestly taking positions like DE that we are overloaded at (and not playing several guys) while ignoring positions of need (like OL, WR, Safety.......)

The guy you want may not be there, but that is why you evaluate plan A/B/C/D/E/F etc...... and if you have positions of need you have to have several options there for every round so you are not coming out of the draft with the same weaknesses and needs that you walked in with.

As one of many examples in his brief career, how does Zach miss this throw? It's wide open, especially by NFL standards. He just has never been able to do the simple things which make a QB successful.

Fant should have been retained. Could have been signed for $4mill. Had a down year in 22 (forced to play injured because the Studs Lol, were on IR) compared to his stellar 2021 campaign. Funny thing is, his down year was way better than Becton's campaign though 11 games this year, and Becton was being praised.
The line should have been addressed in free agency and the draft. JD was content to depend on injury prone and sub par players. That's why the O line is where it's at. I think there is some misguided believe that JD has been successful building the Jets O line. 7 premium draft picks and a 6th round pick, $356 million in free agency and maybe 1 reliable starter for next season............. Defenseless....

Douglas believes in drafting for later potential. Always the high ceiling low floor guy. Unfortunately few reach the high ceiling in the NFL without approaching it in the NCAA

And this is and always will be a problem. It should always be production over potential.
I can see drafting for ceiling in later rounds, but not prime picks. And definitely not when trying to produce a win now roster...
