NFL needs to adopt what soccer did a few years ago. In the past, if one player on the soccer pitch was offside, it negated a goal. Now, if the player is not involved in the play, the goal would count.
So, if a foul like illegal contact happens away from the play, it should not be called. Also, why is it an automatic first down if it's five yards?

Trouble is the illegal contact might be WHY it is away from the play. The QB looks away from the hampered receiver.

I get that and agree. But on that last Zach sack when they picked it up, the rush was on him before he could even see the receiver.
