Overtime rules

For a long time the overtime rules were straight-forward, first side to score wins. Then the 'Manning rule' was brought in after the Irsays complained that they were paying Peyton Manning and the other side had kicked a FG without Peyton getting on the field; only a touchdown or defensive score ended the game, else the other side got one possession. Then they shortened regular season overtime to ten minutes and I asked what happened if there was no time left for the other side to have its possession and nobody knew the answer.

Now we are about to see the Allen rule, devised after complaints from the Bills when Mahomes did score a touchdown preventing Allen from getting on the field. The second side will be guaranteed a possession and if the overtime period expires during that possession a new overtime period will be started. The next whinge will come after Mahomes and Allen score their touchdowns and Mahomes now gets an 'unfair' second possession where he only needs a FG. All of this extra time increasing the risk of injury to tired and dinged players and causing carnage to TV schedules.

Overtime is supposed to be a tie-breaker, not a continuation of regulation. If you don't like overtime, play to win the game in regulation.

I think they should pay the players extra for overtime. Just kidding folks but I would not be surprised if they did lol

Someone had to take the place of Cry Baby Tom Brady in changing rules only to benefit their team.
