Arian Smith...........a speedy receiver. I like the pick but he needs to put on some muscle if he's going to survive in the NFL. He was impressive at the Senior Bowl. He did have some issues with drops but the scouts thought that was because of the unfamiliarity with the QB.

People are saying he's a lesser GW, but I don't see that. Smaller body type, so there is still a need for a bigger WR for the long term. But he is a WR who can stretch the D vertically, which this team desperately needed. Bad hands, which is very much not like GW and not a great route runner, which, again, not GW. But faster.

Royals was available. I do think Royals is a better WR, but he is far more of a poor man's GW clone.

I can't see any comp to GW really. The guy is extremely fast but like I said needs to get stronger and address the drop issues. I think they will draft at least one more receiver, hopefully, more in line with what we armchair experts would like.

Where is the too small arms thing? That was Campbell, the guy the Pats picked. I had not heard much of anything about Membou having short arms. In fact, Bleacher Report said this: "Membou has a dense, thick build with very good arm length, athletic ability, power and competitive toughness."

Weaknesses

  • Far below height standards for NFL starting tackles.
  • Inconsistent running feet under his hands as a drive blocker.
  • Gets outreached and separated by long edge-setters.
  • Not a deep bender and turns to leaning at times.
  • Must prove his anchor against NFL speed-to-power rushers.
Both draft magazines I bought (admittedly outdated and generally rags) both highlight the issue and one even (athlon?) listed him as guard

All that being said, there is only one way to find out how true this is, and that's on the field

I honestly have heard so much false information about Membou at this point, it's crazy. I know the tendency is to bash anything the Jets do, but a lot of the stuff has been pure myth.

1. Workout warrior, got drafted because of the combine. Really? Is that why he scored above a 90 PFF last season, and gave up like no sacks while playing against SEC edge rushers?
2. He's going to have bad knees because he's out of shape like Becton. This one is hilarious. The guy's athleticism is through the roof, he is less than 10 pounds heavier that Campbell and Banks, the other two top OTs.
3, Short arms. Is this people confusing him with Campbell? There is no truth to this.
4. Should have gone pass catcher earlier and filled in OT in the later rounds. Well, the Jets could have done this. They could have had the first TE (whether that was Warren or Loveland) and another tackle in the second. Had they done this, they would have gotten between the 6th-8th OT on the board, Trapilo, Ersery, or Belton. Instead, they got the second OT and the third TE taken. Sorry, but I'll take Membou and Taylor over Warren and Trapilo or Ersery any day of the week. Or they could have gone OT in the third or fourth rounds, which would be no different from Carter Warren and Max Mitchell.

.. "So we got a tackle with too-short arms, a TE that can't block and a CB with mediocre athletic skills?and what goes with this? A WR who cannot catch"

That rookie room is starting to look like the isle of broken toys.

He was 33.5", which is about middling. Will Campbell was almost an inch shorter. And I never heard talk of Membou being moved into G.

Jets traded #145 and #207 to the Eagles to get #130 and Moore in case anyone is interested in following the picks.
Yes, thanks.
I couldn't find that.
But I saw he gats an A- with the comment:
"The Alabama product offers a potential future starter in the secondary with a commitment to run defense. He's slightly undersized and not an elite athlete but holds up well enough in coverage."
