I thought that would get @butterscotch's attention! The Jets have signed Hendon Hooker to the Practise Squad. The guy was drafted in the third round by the Lions and spent his first season on IR recovering from an ACL injury. The ideal QB to place behind AVT. He has since had little playing time.

Not sure how this is preferable to keeping Martinez, but I guess Glenn knew Hooker at Detroit and he's a Glenn guy.

Martinez was also from Detroit and lost the competition to Hooker so both Glenn Guys. Hooker has a little more upside but honestly both are developmental guys.

I don't believe there was a competition, Martinez left the building before Hooker entered. The elephant in the room is who will start at QB for the Jets next season. If they have to wait until 2027 to draft a QB, or if Mendoza/ Moore sit for a while, somebody is going to have to bridge the gap and Brady Cook doesn't appear to be it. Perhaps @butterscotch's favorite Murray is a candidate (*) on the basis that he is likely to be available whereas Mariota/Jones may not. Or perhaps they are hoping that Hooker could be that guy.

* We could hire some Japanese offensive linemen so he could see over them, Trouble is, they'd be called for Cut Blocking on every play.

Absolutely untrue. Hooker joined the Lions before Martinez did .
Mariota will most likely be available, he has a couple opportunities to be a starter so he is unlikely to sign up for the back up role.
Jones very likely resigns with the Colts. Rumors are they are preparing to offer him 3 year $120 million dollars with $60 million in guaranteed money.
