The New York Jets have locked up another core player.
Gang Green agreed to terms with starting guard Joe Tippmann on a four-year, $66.4 million extension, NFL Network Insider Ian Rapoport reported Monday, per sources informed of the deal. Tippmann's deal includes $34.9 million guaranteed.

A second-round pick in 2023 out of Wisconsin, Tippmann has started 48 games over three seasons in New York at both center and guard. After starting 17 games at the pivot in 2024, Tippmann found a home at right guard last year, where he proved a stellar pass protector. With bookend first-round tackles Olu Fashanu and Armand Membou on their rookie deals and Tippman signing long-term, New York's offensive line has its foundation for the next several seasons.
The 25-year-old Tippmann was set to enter the final year of his rookie contract. Now, he'll be a Jet for the long haul.
Gang Green spent the offseason bolstering the defense in free agency and upgrading the roster with young talent in the draft. With running back Breece Hall and now Tippmann earning extensions this offseason, the Jets can continue to build around their nucleus.

I cannot love this enough. I wish he was better at C than at G, as I view C as a more important position, but having three young stud OL under contract for the foreseeable future is a great place to be.
now we just need two more and we are golden, actually need two role options just in case like @butterscotch said injuries

I have to admit its good the Jets are trying keep these guys together.
It's rare these guys stay healthy all year and the more they play together the more intuitive their play will become. All of the good OLs thrive because of the continuity they develop on the field. That only comes from playing together. I'm happy with the OL for a change. It will be interesting to see if they mature to the next level this coming Season.

Reading about keeping certain 'core guys' got me to thinking about Q Williams and Sauce being traded. Was the value just too good to pass up or was there something else involved in their departure? I'd like to think it was the value particularly with the '27 QB crop on the horizon, because they seemed like good guys on top of being very good players.

we need a group of players buying into team success not individual stars. loved Sauce, loved Q but they were key players that the group were irrelevant. now we can focus on team aspect and have players working off each other not around those two. same goes on offense, they finally built the offense as a unit yes Wilson arguably the best player but we have comparable other weapons that can lift the offense, it just takes a defense to give the offense chances for success not allowing opponents to put up points and us always trailing. now if the coaching staff can get the offense in rthym to wear ball control is more than half of the game plan while still taking shots our defense can feast and it wont be just two players eating. will be fun to watch this season. I admit I barely was able to watch the games last year I saw the writing on the wall early.

Sauce was a problem. Always disgruntled, never took accountability. Once we went to more man coverage, he was exposed. Couldn't point at a teammate and blame them for his mistakes. Q was replaced for much less money and the draft picks for both should lay a foundation for the future.
