I'm sure it's just rumor or speculation but I heard something today about Winston to the Jets?

Help me out Jets nation, on the Colin Cowherd show today they were saying something about Winston to the Jets. I couldn't listen to it because I had something to do at that time. What's the deal, any possible realness to this or is it all pre-draft BS as usual?

There's beginning to be a lot of smoke here, it's up to you to believe there is a fire. Here is some concrete variables that are fact based that are leading to the opinions Jets may land Winston:

1) Jets loved his pro day...so much so, they cancelled a private workout because his 102 throws at his pro day left them feel good enough to not have another private throwing session with Chan and friends.

2) Last week Mike Mayock first reported grumbling from Tampa brass they are leaning towards MARIOTA.

3) Jets schedule time with Winston in Jersey to see how well he can pick up their offense and play book.

4) Jaws for ESPN confirms Tampa leaning towards MARIOTA in a separate report from Mayock's.

5) Titans becoming more and more of a likey trade partner, but they don't appear to want to trade down too far with Cooper, White, Williams, and Fowler all having visited recently...some of those names would make it to 6.

6) MacBowles each mentioned trading up last week just before the Winston visit was scheduled and before all the reports of Winston not going #1 ...coincidence? Who knows, but interesting Jets heat up the Winston buzz just before rumors of him not going 1 start making the rounds.

A lot of writing on the wall he could be a Jets target...but there are always stories like this at this time of year. I'd guess Winston goes 1;if he doesnt, I bet the titans phone blows up and we are one of the teams calling.

As a point dexter fan, I'd be okay if we traded for him.

I don't believe I the trade scale anymore now that the rookie salaries are fixed.

One year the skins give up 3 1s, 2 2s, and 3 mid to late Rd picks to go from 6 to 2...the following year the Phins give up #12 and 42 for #3 ...

I don't think teams even use the chart anymore and base the value of the move up more on the fact it's for a franchise qb vs a BPA target.

Just my opinion.

It's all pre-draft chatter ! I still don't think the Titans are going to draft a QB, and if they trade out of the #2 spot, they may lose out on the kid they really want and probably the best player in the draft Leonard Williams DE/DT ? The Titans know that Jacksonville is sitting there @ #3 not needing a QB or WR, and since Gregory smoked his way out of the top 5, Williams could be there guy. The only way the Jets get Winston is if we give up a minimum of this years #6 and probably our first pick next year plus more picks. Do we really want to do that ?

Or...if TEN just takes Williams, then that leaves JAX maybe looking to trade down and grab more value. That would be a much more reasonable deal, probably similar to the Dolphins' deal to move up.

It would be heaven on earth if Winston just feel to us and we could draft him with out trading up at all. Just allow me to dream here for a minute please, Lol. I've said it all along, if we can get Winston without trading up preferably, WOW and WOW and WOW! Winston is the only QB worth a first round pick IMHO. He will be a game one starter and bonified franchise QB as long as he keeps or gets his head straight. Mariota is a risk pick at #6 anyway. All the other QBs are 2nd rounders at best, third really. So if we can get Winston then do it. If we had to trade up for him I wouldnt be mad either. If not, then go with a LB or WR. O-linemen a distant third option at #6 but understandable if they do.

Hallelujah...... someone who sees it. I have been saying since Feb that I dont believe Wilkerson will be with us after the draft. Now while I dont agree with this, it makes sense that MacBowles have put him off this long when the obvious was to extend him asap. I fully believe Wilk is trade bait in this draft. Tennessee could use a Dlineman and perhaps it was fodder to move up to 2 . I dont believe Wilk and our 1 this year gets you Tampa's pick. I think teams are really looking at the washington trade fiasco with RG3 .... and saying no way

We've never disagreed more...2 1s (one of them doesn't even count, because you are flip flopping picks), a 2, a 3, and a 5 for your own Aaron Rodgers, Tom Brady, Peyton, Big Ben, Ryan, or Brees? Sorry, but I'm not sure there is an amount that is too much for your franchise QB. If you don't feel he is one of those guys, you aren't trading up anyway....

Also, trading homegrown talent after going on a big free agent spending spree sends the wrong message to the locker room; especially to Richardson). I view your proposal as a horrible way to build a franchise, essentially reverting back to Mike Ts method of building.

Disagree with the bolded. Do you think the Jets would have sold the farm to move up for Sanchez? One of the reasons I don't get nauseous when I look back at that trade is because we didn't give up much to get him.

If we could move for a "reasonable" price, I'm all for it. If we give up what you suggested there will be a hole in my wall and a personal vendetta against every member of the FO until they prove the move was worth it . . .

I am with you .... If all of a sudden they do not want him (? - maybe smoke too? but if he slides like GENO did why would we want him? I don't gavive a chit what his potential is or what the scouts say... To me this is a red flag and there is a reason for this abrupt change so at the very least we should find out before we make any move.

I don't care if he falls, I just want to know why the consensus #1 Overall Pick for months, the guy everybody in his mother was touting as a mortal lock to the Bucs at #1 , and until this week the Bucs gave no indication that they weren't taking Winston, have suddenly appeared to do a 180?

You don't have to be Lt. Columbo to surmise they found something that scared them about Winston and its probably not football related, and we're talking about a kid in their own backyard, so their PI's know the lay of the land.

It's been reported that the Owners don't like Winston because they value image and character. The beat reporter who broke this has a solid history. Who knows if this will mean anything come April 30, but it sure makes things interesting
