Those guys were so dominant that winning the Super Bowl was a foregone conclusion.

People think they put out that video, the Super Bowl shuffle, after the Super Bowl, but they put the damn thing out during the regular season, before the playoffs even started. You think Rex Ryan was brash, these guys were like, we're winning the Super Bowl and F.U. if you don't like it, just try and stop us.

But Buddy Ryan+Mike Ditka was the perfect storm of ego maniacs..

The Niners team that beat the Dolphins. Can't remember if it was 84 or 86. I would say 85 Bears, but I feel that Niner team was more complete

That 84 49'er team had the 2nd top O and the number 1 D and won the Bowl..

There you go

However if we compare the QB's that year Montana had 28 tds and 10 picks and 3630 yds to Marino's 48 tds and 17 picks and 5,084 yds.. The 49'ers were a stacked team the Fins had the number 1 offense thanks to Marino who could have won the Bowl with that 49'er team as well IMO..

The thing about that Bears team is, as much as it is remembered for Buddy's D, its offense was more than solid. It had one of the best RBs ever, in an area where RBs are essential late in the season and in the playoffs.

The problem is, the game has evolved in the three decades since, and your success is limited if you try to build a team exactly like this.
I beg to differ, sir :)

This formula, if you have the horses they had, would win a championship in any era.

You couldn't run on their front seven at all, the Patriots had SEVEN rushing yards in SB XX, and you couldn't throw anything other than short passes because downfield routes took too long to develop, they would be taking your QB off the field on a stretcher. Offensively they had a great running game and an opportunistic passing game with one of the fastest deep threats in the league at the time, Willie Gault, who was an Olympic sprinter, and the QB was pretty good too when he was healthy, problem is he played with reckless abandon and was always hurt after 85.

If Seattle could win a championship last year and should have had another one this year if Carroll gives the ball to Lynch, then the 85 Bears could absolutely dominate in any era in my view.

The Jets actually played a decent game against them. They were never gonna win, but it was far from a blowout. Marino tore them up on Monday night. I still say the 84 niner Team was better, both sides of the ball

The 84 Niners were also 15-1 , and the only loss was a nail biter. The 85 bears were lit up on that Monday night

The problem is, when teams try to replicate it today, they seem to forget how good the Bears' passing game was. Gault was legitimately great at spreading the field. McMahon could do enough at QB.

The reason I said the game has evolved is because those who have tried to replicate this model have largely ignored the passing game, and the league is much more pass-dependent now than it was then.
