You can't be serious?? You might want to look at that 2009 roster again plus Revis and Cro are back and they have a excellent young D-line..And unlike 09 there are better QB's now..

Rex inherited a playoff caliber roster in 2009. Bowles is taking over a team that won 4 games. Now, Macc has added a lot of talent, but it's not quite the same situation.

And the year before the team had Farve in 2007 they were 4-12..

What coach would you say would be a fair comparison?

Arians before he became the Cards HC and he never won asst HC of the year like Bowles did.. I have high hopes for Bowles, I just get a laugh at the Mangini left a playoff team for Rex crap.. The QB that Mangini went 4-12 with in 2007 won the East in 2008(Yes Brady was out) with a Fin team that was 1-15 the year before and Sparano as the HC.. Plus even before Farve hurt his arm Mangini lost to the Pats with Cassels as the QB and had to go to overtime to beat him the second time around.. Yep that Mangini was a great coach..LOL

Just like Idzik had to be better than Tanny . . .

And look how that turned out....

It really does amaze me how everyone knows everything here. They have yet to see Bowles coach a game for the NYJ and yet they know that he is night and day better than Rex. :roflmao:

So what will they say if Bowles turns out to be the next Rich Kotite?

Good point. No matter how much the posters on here hate Rex, there are still the vast majority who love Rex. Inevitably, whatever goes wrong in Bowles administration, it will be criticized for not being "the way Rex would have done it" or "If Rex were here, that would not have happened".

There's a lot of room for compare/contrast and debate whether Todd compares to Rex. I am sure that is what the fans and media will do.

Bowles has some large shoes to fill and he must know that. The best way to stop the nonsense from people that are not "in the know", is to WIN. As soon as possible, show progress. If he wins a SB? It will bust that nonsense wide open. The longer it takes for him? The larger the stage he will be giving his detractors. It's all up to him and what he wants to make of his opportunity in NY.

I'd say there is a significant number of Jets fans who liked Rex as a person, thought he was a good defensive coach, loved his first few years, but grew more frustrated by the issues that came up over time.

I'm not sure it's a question of either love or hate. I liked Rex as a guy, think he can be a decent HC if he learns from his mistakes, but liked the move to part ways with him. I think he lost his locker room.

I also think that if the team improves over his time here, it will bode well. Rex had the initial spike of the first two years, and then his teams slid. If Bowles comes in and builds increasing success, he will be judged favorably by those who are fair.

never said he was a good coach, but he was a good talent evaluator and developed players a hell of alot better than wrecks.

The answer to what kind of coach he will be should be somewhat obvious from his past - straight-up, aggressive (at least with his defensive schemes), not brash and bold like Rex and is considered a players coach (for different reasons than Rex).

The real question is will he be successful.

He like many other coordinators turned HC has had great success in managing one side of the ball (it's the reason they got hired). It's such a quantum jump in taking on the whole team that many have failed. Some have needed time and experience (like Pete Carroll) and some/most never make it.

What we need is someone who will manage the entire team effectively, work well with the GM in getting the right talent for the schemes they run, pick a good staff, develop talent and constantly get better or learn from your past mistakes (something Rex didn't do). Hopefully, Bowles will bring this to our Jets.

You have a sample of Bowles as a HC when he was with Miami coaching for 3 games going 2-1 to close out the season

I would say where he came from like other guys said. you are who and where you came from....PArcells/Arians...etc.....these guys don't seem too happy go lucky....I think he has worked harder than Rex to get to this point..he did not have anyone's "name" to help build his resume....And don't get me wrong..I never hated Rex and I thought he was an entertaining/energetic shot in the arm..but he played his course....

Some one that will hold players accountable for knowing their assignments and getting after them when they blow it...as he DID in AZ as the DC. You have already seen that with players comments now... having said that every time he was asked about his philosophy he stated, we will play complementary football."

When did Rex every make that statement let alone enforce it? There is an old adage that applies here, "the apple doesn't fall to far from the tree." Rex is exactly like Buddy his father, a very good DC, but a lousy HC.

No one knows how this team will play this year but I gotta tell ya so far this management team is light years ahead of the past regime(s).

Jet fans don't even have to see Bowles coach a game to know that he is a professional. Ryan being
the most unprofessional coach the NFL has ever seen. And continues to be a clown in Buffalo. Big
shoes to fill? Hahaha! You mean big red shoes that clowns wear? Maybe you mean that winning
record Ryan took with him.
