Hey Sack I didn't know you live in New England, how about that so do I, I'm in CT, where are you?
Can he really not pay it? What should he do instead? Sue the NFL?
you previously seemed to indicate that you expected the jets to be docked a draft pick or picks. seems to me this fine, while huge to normal people, is a mere slap on the wrist for a billionaire like woody and a franchise like the jets (worth $1.8 billion on the august 2014 forbes list)

He would probably be barred from nfl activities until he donated it to charity to spite commissioner kraft.

Woody said it. It was wrong, and a violation. He deserved punishment.
That said, by the strict letter of the rule, if Woody is guilty, so is Kraft. That is part of the reason why I think Woody got a much lesser penalty than he probably should have.
Had Kraft not opened his mouth, or Woody not responded with a tampering charge of his own, a mid-late pick would have been docked, and probably a mid-round swap of picks. But Kraft pretty much destroyed any chance of that.
Both guys were stupid, and both were smart. Woody was stupid when he made his initial comment. Kraft was smart for pouncing on it and filing charges. HOWEVER, Kraft was stupid for commenting on Revis after he was signed by the Jets, and Woody was smart to pounce on a charge.
If the league dropped the hammer on the Jets and let the Pats walk, it would only feed the belief that NFL fans in 44 states and Fairfield and New Haven counties have, that of a league that helps out the Pats. Whether that belief's true or not, Woody placed Goodell in a position where he would be adding to that perception if he hit Woody big and let Kraft off the hook. Right or wrong, perception trumps reality.

Exactly. It was the smart thing to do, even if it was even more frivolous than Kraft's charge. It painted Goodell into a corner regarding the perception of favoritism.
And say what you will, outside of New England, football fans think that it's FAR more important that Goodell was at Kraft's house partying the night before the deflategate title game, posting pics on social media than it is that Goodell was a Jets intern 32 years ago. Most football fans think it's far more pertinent today that Kraft got the owners to give Goodell a $44MM annual salary than that Kensil used to work in the Jets' front office.
Just a note on Kensil - for all the Pats reporters and fans who think he has some pro-Jets, anti-Pats agenda, the guy was FIRED in 2006 by the Jets, and it was acrimonious, a bitter parting. How many people in this country who had been fired from a job would be in the tank for the company that fired them? I cannot imagine too many.
I'm not necessarily saying the Pats get complete favored status, although I do think their ownership is part of the triumvirate running the league (Kraft, Rooney, Mara). But the notion that the Jets get favorable treatment is ridiculed outside of New England.
I think Woody's a great owner. Best we've had. But I'm also an honest Jets fan. He used poor judgment in making the Revis comment. He should have known better than that. I'm glad we got off relatively light, but as others have pointed out, Kraft's comment certainly helped our cause. I'm glad this is over. Revis is back where he belongs.

Based on the only previous similar examples a loss of a late round draft pick or and exchange of draft position was the result. It was pointed out that the difference may be that in the Chiefs/Lions case was that they where able to prove direct contact between the offending team and the player, here there wasn't direct contact. So in all I'm content that the NFL publicly disciplined the Jets for violating League rules.

It is, though not as economically prosperous as closer to Boston.
It is exceptionally provincial, far more than CT. In much of CT, you have a gray area between Boston and NYC. In this part of MA, it's all Boston.
Understandable. Though I will say, you had suspected the punishment to be greater, even a high pick.
I thought there would be lower draft pick compensation, but I believe Kraft hurt that with his own comments.

It's not so much a gray area, west of the CT river is basically N.Y. in terms of fans and East is Boston. There is however a murky strange area that produces Red Socks/Jet fans, Patriot/Yankee fans, Giants/Red Socks fans, some pretty weird combinations.
