Would you sign La’El Collins once he is cleared?

I'm not going to pretend to know the legal system, but if he does end up completely innocent, it would seem his case would be stronger against the law enforcement that chose to "talk to him" publicly than against the NFL . . .

I don't know the facts except that his girlfriend was murdered. I'm sure all NFL teams know more then us, otherwise someone would have picked him

We should have locked him up by using one of our 3 7th round picks on him. He was one of the highest ranked LT's in the draft. If we drafted him, I think we'd own the rights to him for a year, so why not. Worth the risk for me.

NFL Radio was talking about this, this morning. They said if he doesn't get drafted. He can re-enter the Draft next year. Idk. Any official link on the rules or NFL statement on the subject

You may have an extremely valid point, but for now it will not apply to Collins ..... it will get addresed in the next CBA.

In truth, there is no precedent for this.
If he was drafted and refused to sign, he could re-enter the 2016 draft.
Using precedent, he SHOULD be able to do so, but the NFL says a prospect is only obligated to go through 1 NFL draft before becoming a free agent.
There simply is no language clearly defining undrafteds re-entering the draft the next year, but the Supplemental Draft route is definitely prohibited.

There is no language either way in the current CBA to address this one, but if push comes to shove in arbitration, it probably reverts to him being eligible in 2016's draft.
The NFLPA can't argue his case though, because he's not eligible to be represented by them - though HYATT™ is sure they'll file the usual amicus curiae brief or some such.
Then again, Evil-EL is in somebody's pocket and they may not want Collins to be able to do so, for their own reasons, and he's such a tool he'll go along with it.

UDFAs sign a 1 year contract usually, there's nothing preventing them from signing a longer one however, so long as it's not over 4 years.
Once they do sign, they enter the same territory as drafted players and that involves the whole RFA thingy for players with less than 4 years of vested service.
Normally it's either a 3 year deal or 1-year, followed by a 2-year, and following that, RFA tenders for another year.
Then after 4 years, they are veteran UFAs with no requirement to go through waivers or any of that stuff and the max of 25% salary increase rule also comes off.

It's going to be an interesting and precedent setting year, HYATT™ suspects - both in the NFL and in Louisiana's court system.

I would ... this guy was Top 15 talent on many boards .... Would put a nice icing on the whole NY Jets draft.

F*ckin' ay..... If the Jets by chance get this guy on an UDFA contract or in the supplemental draft I will be doing CARTWHEELS.

This guy was a top notch prospect and if what authorities are saying is true that Collins is NOT a suspect but they need to speak with him? If that can verified then I say sign this animal FAST.

If they pull that off, from a value standpoint, this would go down as the best Jets draft EVER.

Absolutely agree, if he's cleared and we are able to sign him, it would be the mother of all coup's, like having another TOP 15 Pick and using it to fill one of our biggest needs at OT, or at worst adding an All-Pro caliber Guard.

La'El Collins - T - Player
The Dolphins are expected to pursue LSU T/G La'El Collins once -- if -- he's cleared of any involvement in the death of his ex-girlfriend.
The Dolphins won't be the only team hot on Collins' trail once he's cleared; we're sure much of the league will be interested in signing him. Collins was viewed as a mid-first-round pick before the bombshell murder case was dropped in his lap. Collins can play any of left tackle, left guard, right guard, or right tackle.

MIAMi is the last place a young troubled OT should ever think of signing with!

If I was Todd Bowles I would call him up and play the race card; "it breaks my heart to see a young brother mistreated by the system, come here and I promise you'll get a fair shake, and financially, when the time comes, if you work hard and play hard, I promise we'll make it up to you, you'll get back everything you lost, etc. etc."

Hey, call it fowl if you want to, but how do you think Don King stole Mike Tyson and a million other black fighters? He got filthy rich by knowing how to play the race card.

The NFL is a dog eat dog world and a man has to use whatever is at his disposal to out-flank the competition.

Remember, this is not about this contract, its not a bidding war, everyone can only offer so much according to the UDFA rules that are in place, so he's going with whoever can make the most convincing argument.

Another thing we can tell him is that Brick is on his last year, so this year he can play RT or OG, and next year he can play LT, which means when he becomes a FA he can demand franchise LT money if he plays the way we know he can play, and that alone will make-up for all the money he lost.

Hyatt's made it pretty clear that the kid CAN reenter the draft. Gotta think that would be his wisest course of action . . .

He doesn't strike me as the type either, but I say whatever works.

Hey look, the prize that we're talking about here is IMMENSE, its like filling a huge need with a TOP 15 Pick.

This is the kind of move that can make a big difference.

Well, I dont know about the above strategy...but his work with Tyrann Mathieu in Arizona is well known in the league.

But this is very different, since Collins apparently hasnt done anything wrong. Not sure he has to sell him on anything but a chance to start day 1...which he should have...and we should be able to easily sell him getting better daily playing against Wilkerson, Richardson, and Williams...
