Would you sign La’El Collins once he is cleared?

I would ... this guy was Top 15 talent on many boards .... Would put a nice icing on the whole NY Jets draft.

i doubt he signs. if he sits out the year, he can re-enter the draft next year. gives him time to try and clear his name

What Hobson said. The point is moot since he is reportedly going to wait till next year's draft.

Edit: my previous sentence is true, unless, he is signed to first rd pick money.

A better question may be would you sign Collins, to top 15-30 pick money, if his name is cleared?

To that, I would.

People say a lot things trying to get their own way. If he wants to play, he will sign.

If his name is cleared, he's a free agent, right? Why wouldn't a team just make him a VERY generous offer this year instead of hoping they can grab him next year? I'd have to think that would be hard to pass up, with recent experience proving just how fleeting opportunity can be . . .

Not sure the league will let him go into the 2016 draft - he may just be an UDFA

And yes, if cleared, I would give him significant money

I might even try to find a way to sign him to a deal that is subject to him being cleared if the CBA allows that

1. The league has clarified that he CANNOT enter next years draft, he was eligible for this one and he went un-drafted, therefore the only option available to him is to at some point sign with some team as a UDFA, or never play in the NFL.

2. There are rules in place that only allows teams to pay UDFA's from the UDFA pay scale, so they couldn't give this kid big money if they wanted too. In other words it sucks if he's innocent, but he's screwed.

How many years of service does a player have to put in before becoming eligible for big FA $$$?

I think its three, and you can't offer less years than the standard, just like you can't offer more money.

Short of taking the NFL to court, there's no escape from this mess for Collins.

I know I'm rationalizing, but if the worst that ends up happening to this kid is he waits three years to become a multi-millionaire, he should probably count his blessings . . .

Hell yeah! But he said I believe he would re enter his name in next years draft if no one drafted him by a certain round.

I think the best he can do, and I'm not even sure if this is allowed, but ideally he can get an agreement from the team he signs with NOT to use the tag on him in three years, so either they re-sign him to a new deal or he's an unrestricted FA.

He may even get an attorney and fight the NFL into letting him enter the Supplemental Draft.

If all this kid can do is sign an UDFA contract, I'd sign him pronto! I'd gladly risk some chump change on the chance he gets released.

Maybe he does think he has a way to fight it and isn't listening to offers . . .

Say he does enter the Supplemental Draft. Would you give up a #1 next year for him?

He cannot. CBA: "No player may elect to bypass a draft for which he is eligible to apply for selection in a supplemental draft."

Never say, "He cannot". Anything is possible. I don't want to get off the subject, but others have fought the NFL and won.
