I don't know we have had some doozies mirer,O'Donnell,he'll even easison wasn't the same guy they had in cinn.

O'Donnell with Parcells I felt played well in '97, I think coaching had a lot to do with his decline with Kotite. Then he did pretty well for Tennessee subbing in for McNair. He was serviceable.
Mirer was an already known bust from Seattle then the Bears were foolish enough to trade away a 1st rounder for him. I just think Parcells ego got the best of him trying to prove to New England that Rick was supposed to be the guy that should have been 1st overall instead of Drew Bledsoe.
As for Boomer, in '93 and '94 there was a bit of life back in the stadium especially after the Browning Nagle debacle in '92. Where it truly went down hill for him was after the fake spike, hence the big time signing of the aforementioned Neil O'Donnell.

My main gripe is that all of these players at one point showed some sort of flash:

Rick Mirer's completion record his rookie year were off the charts.
Neil O'Donnell brought the Steelers to the super bowl.
Boomer Esiason was a stud at Cincinnatti.

Geno has shown nothing to indicate that he has potential. I just feel there is always some sort of excuse coming from the "pro-geno camp" stating the reason for his poor play. It's like arguing a moot point trying to justify David Klinglers career with the BENGALS.

IMHO, I have never seen such a horrendous QB play for my beloved team than Geno. It seems he's more preoccupied with hanging out with Jay-Z, publicity stunting dishing out practice videos like he does every year making fans think he's righting his own ship. He just doesn't get it and i'am happy that this new regime is trying everything in their power to move on from this mess.

With all due respect:

For the Geno-Apologists:

Does any one want to see the Jets win anymore? Once a glass is shattered it's done with. Glue it back together with the best of adhesions, but the cracks will be evident. Geno Smith excels once the pressure is off of him. If the season is still alive, he will tank as he has done with a better supporting cast last year than he had in his rookie year. Yet, when the team is out of the playoff hunt, the guy shows promise?
He had a good game in Miami, TWO YEARS IN A ROW, in which no one wants to play at all. It's a waste of a statistical performance.

Sure, young guns will have ups and downs, but damn, 3 interceptions in one quarter and we still think the issues are because he needs better players around him? Geno is not the answer folks. If the team wants to be competitive, Fitz must play.

This new regime knows what it has in Geno. They've done their due diligence on him. Sure he's still on the team because he comes cheap and they're willing to give him a shot just like any other player. Though they also know the chances of Geno becoming a franchise QB is like saying Blair Thomas will some day break Walter Paytons then rushing record.

Ryan Fitzpatrick & Bryce Petty were brought in to weed out Geno Smith. Plain and simple. Bowles knows who he has as his O.C. He trusts him. He trusts that Chan Vied for Fitz's services as he wants to replicate what he had at Buffalo. Now that i'll buy into, Fitz with a better supporting cast will excel far more than Geno will.

Really?? This thread too??
Can we please have one thread that the Geno haters leave alone?
And the geno supporters too.
This thread had NOTHING to do with Jets QB's.

So if Fitzpatrick goes down, we're comfortable with Simms or Petty going in?

I don't think the Jets rebuilt the secondary with Donald Trump dollars to take that chance. Like it or not, Geno Smith has shown more ability than either of the aforementioned other two. I understand that Geno is still a big wild card, but I'm very doubtful that either Simms or Petty would outperform him in 2015. Simms is going to get cut, and Petty needs AT LEAST a year on the sideline before he's a factor. My math says there are two options this coming season. Whether we like those options or not.

I have more faith in gailey making smith perform adequate than i have in smith turning into a decent QB in year 3.

In other words it will be gailey that makes smith not smith as a QB

It should be interesting, as I'm not sure that Gailey has ever had a QB with as much physical ability as Geno. I'm just hoping that the best guy plays and the team is successful, and if that means Smith I'm fine with it. I think that this team will have enough balance offensively and the defense will be strong enough that that the QB doesn't have to be great to win.

Then Fitzpatrick better stay healthy

LORD HEAR OUR PRAYER

Because your option 2 is a season killing proven disaster that gets coaches and GMs fired

My guess is that Petty will play great in preseason and Smith will be Smith which will give MacBowles the easy decision to go with Petty and Simms as the two backups to Fitzpatrick

Time to stop wasting resources on the impossibility of Smith being even a decent NFL quarterback

I thought the Vikings game he was pretty good also Bridgewater was just better

Bridgewater was not better....they were at least equal...

GENO 18/29 for 254 1 td and his best weapon during that game Harvin went out in early 3rd....

Bridgewater won game but his stats inflated because of 87 yd TD in OT from an aborted pass coverage and tackling..he was 19/28 309 and 2

Geno Smith is by far the worst Jet QB not named Browning Nagle.

No. This is the season that we find out what all of us already knew. Geno sucks. The statistics have said exactly that for two straight seasons now. If he hadn't at least shown some flashes of being the real deal then he never will and he was never meant to.

Ryan Fitzpatrick will be the starter if he can stand up straight. Geno will be cut at the end of the season.

If anyone thinks Simms can be better than Geno..a serious psycholgical evaluation is due.....Geno obviously is not good..or even average sometimes..but he shows flashes of ability that Simms..and waits to be seen about Petty could ever portray....

Your guess is not Petty plays great in preseason..it is your HOPE he plays great.... Petty came from basically the same system as Geno..shotgun driven..Geno has more physical ability and has been in leage for 2 years...

The ball is in Geno's court....with a much improved weapon aresenal at his disposal...a potentially better for him offensive coordinator...and a defense with a secondary,.....YES this is the season in his grasp to lose....

Petty can remember the playbook and probably timezones too. Smith has proven he can't do either

Obviously..thats what holds him back..since he has not been the sharpest knife in the drawer in the past....maybe/hopefully he can learn and mature....it seems so far that Brandon Marshall has been a very good educational influence on him (PLEASE SKIP JOKES..everyone has issues)

Just for record..I DONT CARE who is Jets QB..I just want to win....I dont care if they bring back Kenny O'B....

I'm just glad none of us are the coaches and GM and the real coaches and GM are in Florham Park in the Jets facility making the decisions. This will be a fair and open competition and may the best man win. We can't ask for anything more then that. There are people on this board that want Geno gone no matter what. Doesn't matter what stats you post, they show on TV or you even mail to their f-ing house to prove his stats did get better from year one to year two and they did also get better when the Harvin trade occured, they still want him gone.

Hell, Geno can win the us a SB this year and be the MVP of the damn game and the league itself and some poster still will want him gone for some reason or another. Me personally and I will admit, I'm pulling for Geno and believe he can succeed. More important I'm a die hard Jets fan first, not a Geno fan so any QB that can play and help us win I'm rooting for him and the team. Just seems not all of us feel that way. Anyway, Geno can have an excellent season with this talent we have now. I believe Fitz and Petty (Simms won't make this team) can do the same. Its just about who wants it more. We shall see but as far as this turning into a debate, I'm going to stay as far away from that as possible.

This is the season we find out re: Geno

If Petty plays this year, then will we have the " Petty Haters", because he will have growing pains and stink as well . Somebody on sports talk radio said QBs don't sit and leArn any more in the NFL, and the mindless robotic repeaters ran with it .
Anyone who thinks Geno isn't going to get a fair shot at winning the QB job will be sadly disappointed .
