He's definitely not the missing piece. You're right with that. The Jets need to improve in other areas before you could say that adding Evan Mathis would put the team over the top. But, if the right was right, he could be another GREAT addition to a needy OL.
I see no problem with landing Mathis so long as the price is right (not sure that would ever be the case).
This is pretty much exactly where I stand.
He may not make the Jets Super Bowl contenders, but you don't pass up making moves just because the move won't make you the best team in the league. If teams did that, what would be the point in improving?
I doubt the money works out, anyway. Mo still needs to be addressed at some point.

The Miami Herald says the Dolphins are inclined to pay free agent G Evan Mathis less than half of the $5.5 million he is seeking.
Mathis complained about his contract in Philly, requesting a new deal or trade. It resulted in him getting released two months ago and he remains on the street. Now Mathis and agent Drew Rosenhaus are just hoping they can recoup the $5.5 million they were scheduled to get from the Eagles.

They still need a RG. Colon just doesn't get me excited. Was hoping Qvale could pull the surprise.

Bowles seems to really like Colon in the interviews, don't you think? He seems like one of "Bowles guys" in the locker room. I think we go with him. It just seems Bowles uses Colon as an example in a lot of interviews to me.
And he looked awesome in the 1st preseason game. He also has me excited to watch short yardage situations after putting his guy in the LBs lap on that 4th and 1 run last week.
There is talk about Mathis visiting Seattle today.
