The New York Jets have made some great moves to rebuilding there team in 2015, however one position that is still up in the air is the team’s starting QB.

However, depending on how things go this season the Jets might look to make a move on a player like Colin Kaepernick.

According to The Big Lead, when the 49ers take the field for the first time in 2015 they will not look like the same team they were in 2014.

They lost about a half a dozen starters via free agency and retirement. The biggest holdover from that era is QB Colin Kaepernick, who the 49ers gave a lot of money to in the summer of 2014. He proceeded to regress badly, which could be part of Harbaugh’s ugly situation.

John Clayton of ESPN writes if the 49ers find themselves in a situation where the team goes 5-11 they might be tempted to trade Kaepernick to a quarterback starved franchise, like the Jets, for the right price:

The Jets Top 15 pick in the 2016 draft and Muhammad Wilkerson (who fills the Justin Smith void) is a good jumping off point. The Jets might have to toss in one more middle-round pick to make it work.

Wilkerson is certainly a great option to build a major trade around, and depending on how Geno Smith plays this season Jets fans will get a better idea of what the future may hold for their franchise.

The Jets might not be willing to give up as much as the 49ers would be looking for, and there no telling if Niners will truly fall apart in 2015. But, expect some sort of trade talk rumbles to happen if things don’t go their way.

Wilkerson for Kaepernick would be too much. He's suffering from RG3 disease...he looked good in a non-NFL system; try to make him an NFL QB, and he falls apart.

Steve Young said it when they gave him the big contract, how do you pay a guy that much that still can't read defenses and is told pre-play where to go with the ball?

Another struggling spread offense QB.

Super, we usually think alike when it comes to football, at least more often than not, but while I do see your point on Kappy, I still like his talent and this kid has already been to a Super Bowl, and he wasn't some game manager just along for the ride, he made a ton of plays that year and in that post season run to get his team to the Super Bowl, a place we haven't been in 45 years!

That said, I would offer SF Mo Wilkerson, Geno Smith and our 2016 second round pick, secretly knowing I'll give them our 1 if thats what it takes to close the deal, but I'd first try to get them to settle for a 2.

There are 4 QBs in next year's class I would take over Kapernick...there are 2 QBs I would give up my 1 and 2 and next year's 1 before trading for Kapernick.

Cook and Hackenberg are both farther along in their development than Kapernick, are pro style QBs, are younger, and would be on rookie deals (money) till 2021...sign me up for that.

Now, I'd trade up to the 9ers top 3 pick for our QB and they can keep Kap...sign me up for that also. :)

I respect both you guys but I am more in line with 55 in this instance. If we are going to give up a lot I would prefer to do that for one of the top QBs coming out next year.

I had seen this report, and found it ridiculous. Sorry, but Wilkerson for Kaepernick is awful. I don't do that STRAIGHT UP!

And to suggest that Mo, a first, and a third for Kaepernick is a starting point is just ludicrous.

While we're at it, why not Sheldon Richardson and three first-rounders for a seventh rounder and a couple end zone pylons.

I can understand that too, its not something I would be opposed to if Geno fails and Petty fails to impress the CS with his potential, even with that I can still see us trading up for a QB because its so important and you can't just rely on a maybe, but if I had to choose between trading up for a rookie or Kappy, I would rather trade for Kappy and here are my reasons:

1. Too me he's a proven winner in the NFL who has been to the SB and multiple conference finals, so I know you can win with this kid if you surround him with a good football team, and IMO we have a really good football team, with a quality QB this team could win a SB in my view. No guarantee, but IMO you give this team a quality QB and the SB is a realistic goal.

2. Rookie QB's normally take at least two or three years to groom, before they really start hitting their stride, and do we really want to waste this defense and Brandon Marshall on a rookie QB dealing with the usual growing pains, instead of a 27 year old QB in the prime of his career who has already been to the mountain top?

If I had to choose one, I'll take the 27 year old and take a run at the SB THIS YEAR, but he's young enough to give us a future at the position too, so basically all we are doing is bypassing the growing pains for a team that has real SB potential right now, with the right QB steering the ship.

I also love Kappy's physical talent, good size, duel threat with a cannon for an arm.

They're also all your style qb. The top 4 qbs are all 6'3 or taller. All are 230+ except Goff who is 6'4 210. All big, tall, strong qbs.

I know we sucked a year too soon.

You are 100% correct. Having the 6 pick in a year with Cook, Hackenberg, Goff, and Cardale Jones would have been attractive with teams like Jags, Raiders, and Skins all likely to take the picks for the franchise QB.

So let me get this straight....Clayton is saying if Kap struggle AGAIN this season the 49ers will want to trade him. OK I with it so far.

Where he loses me is he is then saying the Jets will trade for Kap by giving up Wilkerson and a high draft pick despite his poor play and huge contract because the Jets have forever been a QB needy team?

Come on this is stupid even for Madden

That line of reasoning could make a little bit of sense if it was something we did immediately after the draft and before OTAs but the scenario here and after the season makes no sense at all.

First of all, we will NOT have a Top 16 pick in the 2016 draft. Period

Second, for the 49'ers to want to trade Kapernick AFTER this season would imply that he has had an off year. This of course raises a couple issues. If he has a bad season there is a good possibility they will just cut him, and if they trade him it would be at a reduced price. Also, if he has another bad year, why would we want him? I realize he had some success but that was before the NFL figured out how to contain him, which they have. So you would need to be confident in Kap as a passer.

Third, I have seen some bad trades but the starting point suggested here is ludicrous. If we did this a month ago, maybe you consider Mo and some conditional pick, like 4th to 3rd. Not more than that. But after he fails again, sorry want no part of the guy. Rather go with Petty if Geno and Fitz fail as bad as they expect in this article.

Why would we want to get Kaeoernick when, right now we have Fitzpatrick and Petty and maybe a chance at another really good prospect like Cook, Goff or Jones who will be in the next draft?

Johnny, for the record, the proposal I suggested would be for RIGHT NOW, not six months or a year from now.

I agree with you that its not nearly as enticing if we're talking about mid season or next year.

i completely agree..

mo for kap straight up is still in favor of SF, IMO & i think the league's figured him out..

i would be horribly disappointed in any trade involving mo for kap..

the guy's just not that good..

I would not mind making a deal for Kaepernick. But if that deal involves Mo, there had better be some serious picks coming back to the Jets.
