John Clayton: Colin Kaepernick to the Jets? (speculation)

I'd trade all 3 for Hackenberg. I'd trade all 3, mo, and our 1 for Hackenberg.

Long way to go before June and a little to early to predict what QB's will be at the top...this is not as bad as you suggesting the Jets make an RG3 type trade to get Geno when he got off to that hot start his senior year.

Good point.

I know there's some local bias in the Hackenberg stuff, him being a PSU lad and all.

Im not sure I consider Ryan Fitzpatrick, Geno, and Petty, along with Mo, and a 1, equal to 3 first rd picks, and 2 second rd picks...along with 3 mid to late rd picks.

if you could trade Geno, Fitz, and Petty, along with Mo and a 1 for 3 first rd picks, 2 2nd rd picks, and 3 additional picks...you wouldn't?

I think your analogy is off base. It is equal to what the Giants gave up for Eli though...that may be a better comparison...

Just making sure you dont really think Geno, Petty, Fitzpatrick, and Mo could be traded for what RG3 was traded for...

Some jets fans, especially those on this board, may really think we could get 3 first rd picks and 2 2nd rd picks for those players...along with 3 late rd picks...

I mean, some think Fitzpatrick can get us 14 wins...despite being cut by the titans, rams, bills, and texans...so nothing surprises me any more.

Some Mods compared Fitz to Brady yesterday...so you never know.

And some posters don't understand the difference between citing one element of a player's game and comparing those players.

But he tends to read what he wants to read, rather than what someone else actually said.

I am interested, though, in quotes to support some of these ridiculous accusations. Who said the Jets could be 14-2 with Fitzpatrick?

Who Fitz has been cut by won't save Geno if he isn't a better pocket passer and decision maker. As bad as you sy Fritz is I'd bet if he was on the roster last year Geno would have been benched...I hope Geno plays well but the team needs a man behind center not a kid who misses a team meeting sitting at the movies.

I'd hold off to see if Hackenberg can put up better stats than he did last year before trading the entire franchise for him.

12 TDs, 15 INTs, a completion percentage below 56%, and he's the best QB since Luck? Let's see him get a season completion percentage above 60% in college before bestowing such greatness upon him.

But I'm sure you would be this high on him if he chose to attend a different Big 10 school.

There's looking at stats and watching the game. PSU had no oline last year...most of our top 10 recruiting class this year are olineman.

But if you actually watch hackenberg play...well, you'd know why every mock has him top 10 despite his stat sheet...pretty sure this poster didnt fill out every 2016 mock draft on the internet. Im amazing, but that's stretching it, sir.

I'm not disputing he has the potential to be Top 10. I am questioning how someone with that stat line can be considered the best QB since Luck, regardless of what is around him.

And I did watch him, though not through blue-colored glasses.

hahahahaha, yes, because I pimp Penn State players on the jets board often. How many times have I recommended the Jets draft a penn state player?

I can tell you how many times...never. Hackenberg is the first one. Have I said positive things about Allen Robinson? Sure.

But in the 10+ years posting, I bet you've never seen a post or mock draft from me with a penn state player going to the jets...ever. i do it on purpose to not show bias.

I find it hilarious you point it out now. Especially since I've never done it before. You also mentioned above what if he went to another Big 10 school...pretty sure my top 3 QBs next year are hackenberg, cook, and Goff, #4 would be jones.

Not sure your bias claim has much teeth when 3 of my top 4 QBs are big 10 qbs, 2 from non-PSU schools. If you say im bias on hackenberg over cook because he went to PSU, id argue im bias because hackberg has a jay cutler arm and garapollo release, which Cook has a kirk cousins arm. Both are smart kids and will be successful, but my preference is based solely on arm strength and release.

If you wanted my honest opinion, I think hackenberg can be Matt Ryan, Cook can be similar to Eli, Jones someplace between Cam and Winston, and Goff reminds me of Derek Carr.

Pretty sure id be happy with any of the above and Im high on the QB class as a whole, not just hackenberg. He's just my favorite from a strong class. If we traded our 1 and Mo for Goff or Jones...i wouldnt be as excited as Cook or hackenberg...but they likely go 1 & 2 and are out of our range anyway, so give me Goff and then Jones if we go for tier 2.

I still think this is similar depth to the Eli, Rivers, and Big Ben draft. We should be fine with any of the 4.

"Some on this board" have, at one time. touted Geno Smith as a top quarterback in the 2013 draft and still often tout him as a viable starting NFL QB and better than Ryan Fitzpatrick because of "arm strength"

Pfffttt.
I believe HYATT™ expressed (11-5)/(12-4), not (14-2).
Could be wrong and will stand corrected - if you can PROVE it.

I remember it a Fitzpatrick thread, but couldn't find which one. I remember it being in a long write up that included our D being inline with the 85 bears and 00 Ravens. Maybe you said 12-4. I could be wrong. But I remembered it was a better than a wet dream scenario for the jets. I remember thinking it was a jets dream come true post with Fitzpatrick taking us to the bring of the Super Bowl lead by our D. I hope that prediction comes true.

You remembered it partially right.
HYATT™ did say that if Fitzpatrick is the starter, HYATT™ expects no less than for the Jets to compete for the Big Dance up to at least the AFCC game level.
HYATT™ just never went psycho (14-2) level about it.
Honestly, (11-5) should buy a ticket to the post season and from there it's up to the guys, but there's no real doubt that the Amish Rifle could carry his part through the playoffs.
Strong defense is a good tonic even for an anemic offense in the playoffs.
