Sheldon Richardson Suspended 4 games

Richardson won DROY and made the Pro Bowl last season. What did Blackmon ever accomplish besides being suspended? As for Gordon, didn't he also get arrested multiple times besides failing tests? Shaun Ellis served a pot suspension when he was with the Jets too. Before we completely write Richardson off, let's see how he handles things moving forward.

How did Parcells handle a talented player who did drugs?? Hmmm I don't remember LT getting punished at all maybe someone can refresh my memory??

The epitome of hypocrisy. I'am sure you drank alcohol with your buddies back in your younger days (or now) and got shit faced. I'am sure you won't admit it but all of us have done it then did some stupid act and didn't get caught.

Yet you and many others cast a wide variety of stones at Sheldon. Get real with your judgements. Just by reading your reply, your the "OLD Schoolers" who think smoking pot burns your brain cells and will lead to a worse condition later in life. (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=MESZh-_uyUQ)
{But i'am sure you wont watch it as your stuck in your prehistoric ways}

And if you said was true that the legalization of pot would bring $$$ to the GOV't, then why haven't they done so? Simple young chap, it's because the Government is tied up with pharmaceutical companies & hospital all around the country. They in fact will lose money. You honestly think Marijuana will eventually be legalized for the betterment of the country and it's citizens? Unfortunately no.

The government make a boat load of cash having some one on life support than just prescribing a dose of pot.
Marijuana is absolutely harmless. But keep the blinders on to that 1950's way of thinking.

I think " harmless " is a stretch, but it's certainly less harmful than alcohol. All drugs can be dangerous, but that's not the argument. Sheldon knows that his employer doesn't allow this behavior and he still did it. He has a chance to redeem himself and let's see if he is smart enough to,do that . Simple as that. He seems bright enough, but we all know some people think they know better

Good point about losing leverage with Mo. I think Mo pretty much has to happen now, although right now it is costlier than it was before this.

Richardson could be one of those enormous talents who is that combination of too stupid and too arrogant to respect his physical gifts. Why anyone would do this, more than once, is beyond me. A lot of guys would give an arm and a leg to be able to do what he does. And he just so casually risks everything.

I think it gives that much more leverage to Mo now that Sheldon is one strike away from a bigger suspension.
I would like for Mac to extend Big Wilk, but not at JJ Watt cash. Mo isn't even near that level.

No worries.

If guys would like, we could have a thread on the legalization debate on the off-topic board.

Thank you, but i'am good. I needed to just get it off my chest that's all. Pot gets such an unwarranted bad rap that i truly would think that the NFL would dig deeper and work along side studies that can benfit players as it can help with concussions and other post traumatic issues rather than your average pain killer that comes with so many other side effects.

No need on creating an off-topic thread. I think Maine Jet and i said enough regarding the issue.
I do how ever apologize if i did bother some individuals by posting what i believe in. This is a collaborative group of intellectual Jets fans i love engaging in debates with.

Yet, the rules are rules. Like them or not Sheldon violated them. Unfortunately, the suspension honestly doesn't warrant the crime IMHO.

Absolutely and I couldn't agree more. But it should be fairly obvious to you that he's not being very responsible? It's a very selfish move, that just put the team in a very bad spot. Now, if this is a recurring theme, then really that is what this thread is discussing. What should the Jets do in the event that Sheldon needs to be dealt.

I say let him play out his contract and leave via free agency especially where we may find out very soon that we have log jam of talent along the DL.

Sign Mo and Snacks and lets hope Williams is the real deal.

We don't have to hope. The Jets have the benefit of time on their side. Sheldon is still under contract for another 3 years. So Williams gets to start right off the bat and we'll see if the defense misses Sheldon. Once Sheldon serves his suspension, we'll get to see who's better in a side by side comparison. The Jets hold all the cards here.

Just an early prediction, but I don't believe the Jets will get the short end of this deal. First of all, I think Leonard Williams is the real deal. I think we have the DROY. I also think he'll be every bit as good as Sheldon and probably better. Just my two cents, take it for what it's worth.

It's also obvious the Jets are not going to be able to pay all three. That's not going to happen, they will definitely have to deal one d lineman.

Mo has been a good soldier and he hasn't been a problem throughout this negotiation, so I say pay the man. I am thinking somewhere around 8 to 10 million per season. He's worth that money. He's not JJ watt by a long shot, but he's still very good and worth that money.

Williams, I think becomes a very good player for the team and somebody we want to keep.

Sheldon play out his contract and leaves via free agency and Jets fans probably won't lose a seconds sleep about it.

This is hysterical how many on this board automatically after one incident are ready to write off Sheldon. It's laughable. For some reason it's like the guy committed an Aaron Hernandez murder.

Sheldon is a premeire NFL player. He IMHO is worth much more than Mo Wilkerson. Coaches game plan against him not Big Mo. Sheldon wrecks havoc on the field and has potential to become very Klecko like.

As far as Leonard Williams is concerned, lets see how he is adjusts to the NFL speed of the game before assuming the guy will supplant Sheldon Richardson. There have been many young Defensive players drafted high who haven't excelled in the league:

Amobi Okoye
Vernon Gholston
Mike Mamula
Dan Wilkerson
and many more.

Hopefully he does become a stud, but the jury is still out on him. As far as Sheldon, as 55 said so eloquently, lets give him a chance to redeem himself. Sheldon apologized and vowed not to let his teammates down again.

Lets all relax with the pitch forks for a second and stop with this none sense of finding some one else to take his spot long term.

Quite frankly, some are just comical with their reactions.

Dan it's been pointed out a few times before this is at a minimum his 2nd incident most likely his 3rd to get this suspension. This is just the 1st time we as fans are finding out about it. As far as Hernandez goes people are calling for Richardson to be traded not jailed.

Gordon, Blackmon, Richardson and the countless others can't stop because they are either stupid or arrogant. I think they are both. I don't really care what he does on his own time, but this has affected the team. He can OD on heroin for all I care after he leaves the Jets, but while here I want guys that put the team first.

With the new CBA it was his 2nd failed test, they even upped the level of what can be found in your system.. The funny thing is players can only be tested April through Aug but not during the season..:stoned-smiley:

Then we'r in a huge conundrum. Mo wants JJ Watt type money. We trade Sheldon, what are we left with?
Snacks and unknown Williams? I'am sorry, but i will take the risk that Sheldon will be a man of his word.

Now, if a team comes along and offers 2 #1 's, then its a no brainer. You pull the trigger as it gives Mac extra ammo for the '16 draft to get one of the highly touted QB coming out next year. As you and i know to win in this league we need a QB.

This isn't about pot specifically, this is about stupidity. Period

This moron just cost himself 600+K to get high. You can be the biggest advocate for pot and you still have to agree that this is a special kind of stupid. If someone was to tell me that I had to lay off the Five Guys Cheeseburgers, or I would have hundreds of thousands of dollars taken from me, and I went out and got caught eating one, all would agree that I am universally stupid.

I see how Jet fans are outraged at Sheldon lets see a report when the Great LT was suspended..And look what Parcells said imagine if Rex said what he did??

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. — Where was the sense of betrayal or sorrow for a fallen teammate in the New York Giants' locker room?

Where was the dismay over the absence of a key player for at least four critical games, and maybe longer?

If the Giants felt those emotions yesterday, they kept them well-concealed when All-Pro linebacker Lawrence Taylor was placed on the non-football illness list by the NFL and banished from the team for at least 30 days for failing a test for cocaine Aug. 15.

Taylor, who has acknowledged that he underwent treatment for a cocaine problem in 1986, was suspended for a second offense under league guidelines. He is eligible to return Sept. 28, four days before the Giants play their fifth game, in Washington. If he fails another drug test, he will be banned

from the league for at least one year.

Taylor was not allowed to enter Giants Stadium yesterday. But the team made it obvious he will be welcomed back when he gets medical clearance from the league.

"We were all surprised," said Tim Mara, one of the team's owners. "I wish him nothing but the best, and of course he can return."

Taylor will miss the season opener next Monday night against Washington, plus games against San Francisco, Dallas and the Los Angeles Rams. He also must enter a program of inpatient or outpatient treatment at the discretion of Dr. Forest Tennant, the league's drug adviser. Taylor's return is dependent upon approval of Tennant and the Giants' team physician.

Taylor had been saying repeatedly this summer that there would be "no drugs" in his life. He glibly spoke of how he was a changed person, a new LT, a leader for the defense and role model on the field for young players. But two days after the test was administered, Taylor kicked the door of a truck that had cut off his car in traffic. He then verbally berated a reporter who questioned him and tore up the accident report.

Coach Bill Parcells said he was not angry, but "a little bit surprised. You don't expect these kind of things. I had every reason to believe things were in pretty good shape."

Asked if he felt betrayed, Parcells gave no comment. Asked if Taylor would be hard to take back, Parcells again gave no comment.

Most of the players issued "no comments" as well.

Ironically, Washington's All-Pro defensive end Dexter Manley, one of the other eight players suspended aftern NFL drug tests this summer, will play against the Giants Monday night after serving a 30-day suspension and returning to practice yesterday.

"You just have to get over it," Giants offensive lineman Bill Ard said of Taylor's loss. "Just say he hurt his back. If you dwell on it, you'll screw yourself up."

Taylor outlined his 1986 battle with cocaine in his book "LT: Living on the Edge," which has just been released in paperback. In the 1986 season, he bounced back with his finest season. The Giants went on to win the Super Bowl and he became only the second defensive player in league history to be named the NFL's Most Valuable Player as he set a club record with 20 1/2 sacks.

I will just say this the world changes over time. I remember the days when the police would let drunk drivers sleep it off in their cars. Anyone think we should go back to that or it was a good thing?

I think of anything this just makes it more likely the jets get the deal done with Wilkerson and they will wait till the last second to make a decision of Richardson. They will need to determine if they want to have air tight contract to get out of the deal with another failed drug test or just dump him and not take the risk. Next year we will be in a similar place Cleveland was when they shopped Gordon and turned down a 1 for him (the same year they traded Richardson)...then got burned for it. I think jets will wait and see how williams develops, gets the deal done with Wilkerson, and holds its breath with Richardson. They have 2 more years to deal with Richardson. It's the least of our worries now.

Williams needs to learn quick, Wilkerson needs to get over this toe thing, and we need to stay healthy.
