Ten-Year Partnership Includes Playing A Minimum Of Two Games Per Year At Venue

The NFL and Tottenham Hotspur today announced that they have reached agreement for a minimum of two games per year to be played during a 10-year partnership at the English Premier League team’s new stadium in London.

The state-of-the-art stadium, due to open in the summer of 2018, will feature a retractable grass field with an artificial surface underneath that would be used for NFL games. This innovative field will add greater flexibility in the scheduling of games, with the NFL having its own playing surface for games held at this venue. This field will be multi-use and capable of hosting other sporting, entertainment and community events.

Both sports will have dedicated facilities ensuring that the new stadium, designed with a focus on atmosphere, will deliver the optimum experience for both teams and fans. It will be one of the most environmentally sustainable in the UK and also include a clear focus on accessibility via public transportation.

Can't these greedy owners be happy with the hundreds od Millions of $ they make each yr. and stop ruining it for fans. Thankfully, the Jets don't lose a home game this yr!

I'll be pissed when we do....

Yup, still pisses me off that I have to try to find a place to watch the Dolphin game at 7AM (Chicago time). If they are going to play these games in London, can't they at least play them in the evening over there so the fans who have supported these teams for decades, can watch the games at a normal time.

But who gives a sh!t about the fans.

Maybe it's just me but I'd much rather make a Jet road trip to England than dumps like Sucksboro, Buffalo, Cleveland, Pittsburgh and others

England will probably be great for those making the trip - I am sure you will have a blast if you are heading over there. But for those of us staying back in the states, it sucks. I think it is a 7AM start time in Chicago. All I ask of the NFL is that if they are going to do this overseas stuff, play the game int he evening in London so they are on at a normal time for the 99+% of the fans who can't make it to London.

Agree. Can't imagine what they are thinking putting these games on at 9 am. As you said 7-8 in the mid west. I won't be watching, and it's the Fins game

I'm not sure whether this announcement adds England games or just changes the venue of 2 of the 3 games already on the schedule for years to this new venue.

You'll notice that the home games are being taken from teams like Jacksonville, Tampa, Miami, Oakland and other franchises that normally play before half empty home stadiums anyhow. I wouldn't worry all that much about Jet, Giant, Seahawk, Patriot, Cowboy, Packer et al home games in virtually sold out venues every season

The Hotspur are moving out of White Hart Lane? Darn, I liked that place

These London games are way too disrupting for the fans and the teams. If Europe can't support their own American football league as they have previously proven, they do not deserve to have these games.

These games annoy me for only 1 reason. The majority of the fans that watch these games in London are Americans. I am happy for those die hards that live in the UK and would otherwise not be able to watch these games but the NFL is really misguided.

By luck I was in London last year for work during the Falcons and Dolphins game. Everyone I met that had a football jersey was an American....

Not sure if the sport will gain any traction there

Report: Jaguars expected to extend deal to host one game a year in UK

Posted by Darin Gantt on July 12, 2015, 9:18 AM EDT

The Jaguars may not be moving to London full time — at least not yet — but they do want to keep going there on a regular basis.

Following quickly rubbished reports last week that owner Shad Khan wanted to buy a different London soccer team than the one he already owns and move his football team there, it now sounds like he’s prepared to make a different commitment overseas.

Ryan O’Halloran of the Florida Times-Union reports that he “expects” Khan to announce a second four-year deal with the league to play one home game per year in England.

The current deal expires in 2016, and by all accounts it has been a good one for the Jaguars financially.

The report also said the 2016 Jaguars home game in London will be against the Packers, which would trade one of Jacksonville’s most attractive home dates for the ability to sell more tickets farther away from their actual home.

Unfortunately, owners see football as prestige and income, and not the love of the game.

Also, being at the top doesn't mean you can ever stop, that's when you decline.

I think it's a cultural divide. We love collisions and v8's with giant exhausts. English like tea and croquet.

Maybe we could find a way to have NFL games end in a scoreless draw.

That would really boost the popularity of the sport in Europe.
