If You Could Change 1 Play in Jets History...

Absolutely brutal loss. We had that game under complete control until that fumble. Talk about a momentum change. It completely changed the game. It took about three days for me to get over that one. My girlfriend at the time was miserable having to be around me.

The Doug Brien misses against Pittsburgh brought out the UGLY in me. Let's just say there was a combination of some alcohol and loud cursing after that second miss. I watched it on DVR, and I should've known it was gonna be a bad game seeing my wife's facial expression the minute I walked in the door.

I've learned to let it go. You have to as a Jets fan.

The Pats went to Heinz field the next week and beat the Steelers 41-27 you have to score points so IMO even if we make the FG no way were we going to Gillete and beat the 14-2 Pats that year.. The next year the Jets went 4-12..

I'm going way back but Jets vs. Chiefs 1969 AFL playoff game (not that I remember it, I was 5 years old). Jets get the ball to the Chiefs 1 yard line, 3rd and goal to go, Namath rolls out with no one open. Jets settle for a FG to tie the game 6-6. A TD would have put us up 10-6 and the Jets wouldn't have had to pass the rest of the game to try to erase a 13-6 Chiefs lead. Maybe we could have made it back to back Super Bowl wins. I know we could have beaten the Vikings had we reached the Super bowl.

Here is another one I had not thought about.

12/18/82: Dolphins beat the Jets 20-19 on Uwe Von Schamann's 49 yard FG in the final seconds. If Von Schamann misses the kick, we win 19-17 and finish the strike shortened season at 7-2 and the Phins are 6-3. We host the 82 Championship game instead of playing in the mud in Miami. At home, we probably win that game and go the the Super Bowl and take on our old friend John Riggins.

So he was mad at Byers but had no problem with a total of 14 yds rushing from Cumar?? Terrell Davis had 167 yds..

Curtis Martin -most overrated NFL player ever. The fumble in that game by Byars cost us a SB, no question.

We lost to the Fins during the regular season 45-28 at home so it wouldn't have been a lock..

We don't always agree but on the compiler we do.. Stats don't always tell the story just like because Vinny has more td's and passing yardage then Joe Montana doesn't make him a better player..

Nothing is ever a lock with this team. And nothing was ever a lock with Todd at QB. 1982 was probably his best season, but he was awful in all 3 games against Miami that year - including 2 pick 6s in that 45-28 loss.

But we were on a roll in that playoff season, having blown out both Oakland and Cincy. Would have loved to have gotten the Dolphins on our home field that year. Or any dry field for that matter. Life of a Jet fan -- always thinking about what could have been.

I disagree, we spent many years searching for talent across the board, one position that was dependable year in and year out was rb. Outside of jets fans no one ever thinks about Curtis, so I don't see him being overrated.
We should be so lucky to have a consistent skill player for a decade.

The Curtis Martin fumble that Vinny tore his achilles on. SB was a real possibility that year for Jets.

14 yds in the AFCCG and a fumble that Vinny got hurt on trying to recover first game of the next season.. 2 of the worst back to back games by a RB in Jet history..

For a player that has the most carries in Jet history how many team records does he hold?? Most yds in a playoff game is Freeman. Most yds in a regular season game TJ as well as most TD's in a season.. The only record he has is most yds in a single season to win the rushing title by 1 yd thanks to the most carries of any back that year and having 2 over time games in the 2004 season.. Also thanks to Priest Holmes being hurt and only playing 8 games however he had 2 more tds then Martin playing in just 8.. And of course there was Alexander of the Seahawks who begged Holmgren to get back in the game after the Jets went in to O/T but Holmgren wouldn't because it would have triggered a incentive clause in his contract and Holmgren was also the GM..

I don't understand how you say we got lucky to have him for a decade 1998-to 12 games of 2005 isn't a decade to me.. I thought he was a good durable player but I wouldn't call him great but maybe that's just me.. I will give him this in football today with all the thug type players Martin was a altar boy in comparison..

- The first play that comes to mind is the Gastineau roughing penatly against the Browns in the 1986 playoffs.

- The Byars fumble against the Broncos was a killer because the Jets win that game and beat the Falcons in the Super Bowl.

- Another play occurred in a game at Miami in 1982, in the winning field goal drive at the end of the game Don Strock, the Miami QB, hit Bobby Jackson, a Jets CB between the numbers and Jackson dropped the ball. An interception there ends the game and the "Mud Bowl" AFC Title game may have been played at Shea Stadium instead of the Orange Bowl.
