What would it be?
NFL Live did a segment yesterday on changing 1 play in Colts history. It’s the offseason, not much happening, so I thought this could be a fun discussion.
A couple of plays come to mind, but there is no clear cut, obvious choice.
- AJ Duhe interception in the 82 Championship Game
- Muffed kickoff against Broncos in 98 (or any of the other half dozen turnovers in that game)
- Either of Doug Brien’s 2 misses in the Divisional Game against Pitt
- Sanchez strip-sack in the last two minutes of the first half against Pitt in the 2010 AFCCG game
But the play that sticks out to me is a little more obscure. Opening drive of the 2010 Championship game. After a delay of game penalty, Pitt has 3rd and 7 at around their own 35. Roethlisberger throws incomplete to Emmanuel Sanders. Looks like we have a 3 and out, until a flag is thrown. That is the play I want back. Was a questionable illegal use of hands penalty against Cro.
Instead of a 3 & out and a Pitt punt, they run the ball down our throats for a 9+ minute opening TD drive. Defense was gassed and we were playing catch up the rest of the game and never quite recovered. The strip sack was a big play, but we were already down 17 and in trouble at that point. If that flag is not thrown, I love our chances to win the game.
Maybe that one sticks in my mind because I had so much invested in that game. 8 hour drive from Chicago to Pitt, ridiculous amount of $$ spent on two tickets, sitting in the stands taking abuse from all the Steeler fans, and it felt like the game was over before it began.
What are the moments you would like to change if you had the chance?
