The common denominator among teams that give huge long term contracts to defensive linemen is that they all suck.
Franchise Mo next season and take it from there.

It's hard to really know for sure, since none of us are privy to the negotiations. It does seem likely that the two sides are far apart, though. But also there's the fact that Macc is in the driver's seat here. He can tag Mo next season, and has all the leverage right now. So he doesn't have to do anything right now or next year in terms of an immediate long term deal.
We have a ton of good defensive linemen, and not all of them will be here long term. The numbers just don't add up. I'd really hate to see Wilkerson be the odd man out, but it wouldn't shock me. Especially if Richardson cleans up his act, and Williams continues to progress.
Question is, how do they know if Richardson has cleaned up his act? Because he doesn't get arrested, or flunk a test for a year doesn't mean he won't quickly after a contract is signed. Next one is 10 games.
I watched his interview the other day. The words are good agent speak, but his tone and body language suggest otherwise.
I t reminded me of when he got the 4 game suspension, stood there and told all the media that, that was going to be the last time they would have something big to report on him, 3 days later the resisting arrest story broke.
Kid worries me, I'm still not sure he gets it.
There most definitely is risk associated with giving Richardon a long term deal. I personally think he's the best player on the line, but there are no guarantees that he will make a change in his lifestyle. Imagine if the Jets let Wilkerson walk, re-sign Richardson to a mega deal, and then Mr. Godforshort fails another drug test or gets busted doing something else reckless?
Manish and Co. would break out the SOJ articles and talk about the ineptitude of our entire organization for years. I couldn't bear the anguish of having to read those jerks piling on.
Wilkerson has to be asking for way too much money and that is why the deal hasn't gotten done. That's the only possibility left as to why he hasn't been resigned..
Yeah I agree.
Richardson is probably more of a impact player then Wilkerson, but I think as an All around player, Wilkerson is right there with him.
Myself, given a choice, I would rather pay Wilkerson a bit more then roll the dice on Richardson. pretty sure once Mo's signed he'll continue to play at a high level, heck his mom's lives near by, and is in the seats.
Not even sure Richardson will continue to perform once he gets paid. Even before the trouble came out he wasn't attending OTA's. Said he had a private life. That knowing what was about to break just strikes me as a guy who is super talented, but just doesn't give a crap. Look what Suh's doing now that he's been paid. Zilch
Not saying for sure Richardson will act like that, but the kids got a bad attitude.
Sheldon made more OTA's then Mo who was holding out as long as he didn't get fined.. Sheldon's ego would never let himself slack on the field.. Plus the fact Sheldon's trouble off the field may make him easier to sign.. Last year the Jets were sitting on 50 million and couldn't sign Mo maybe that wasn't enough for him??LOL If Mac can make Revis happy and not Mo mean something stinks in Mo-Town..
IDK Savage. Mo's not showing for OTA's is contract related. Richardson's was , I just don't feel like coming, FU.
Your right in that Richardson might be eaiser to sign being one toke away from a 10 game suspension, but that's a double edged sword.
Think Mo is asking for a lot of money, had some concerns with "turf toe" coming in. Don't think anything stinks in Mo town, they have a bit of leverage with Williams, and possible franchise tag. Last year Idzik was busy trying to screw Rex. He didn't sign Revis for 12 when he had the chance either.
Not really, if you are a fan of the LoS at all - which HYATT™ is completely. How would you guys rate Snacks' play so far? It's hard for me to gauge his impact on the team. NT are hard to evaluate.
Maybe it's about patience; and, wondering if Rex would "sell the house" to get MO96. We don't know the play/trade value of Richardson yet.
Patience? How long has Mo and the fans been patient? It's NOT about patience. And Rex has nothing to do with it. He's in Buffalo. Remember?
