Geno has always been a solid camp player and thus far it seems as though nothing has changed.
This gives me great pause. When everything is quite vanilla and it doesn't require much brain power, Geno looks like an MVP. However, when Geno gets any sort of look of a regular season defense and scheme associated with it, he folds up like a cheap suit.
So really this is a tale of two seasons. Geno has never grown up during the regular season. He continues to make the very same mistakes he was making in his rookie campaign.
So really while he looks impressive in camp, I don't believe a second of it. We need to see what he can do against regular seasons:
1) Can he protect the football? He's never done that in the past. Objectively, a turnover machine.
2) Will he stop taking sacks that take the team out of scoring range? He would do something like that pretty much every 3 games.
3) Has his accuracy improved? At times, he's not even close to his intended wide receiver.
4) Can he start breaking down the defense? Most of the time it appears as though Geno has no idea what he's looking at.
5) Can he start successfully going through progressions and completing passes to 2nd, 3rd, and 4th options? This is the area where most QB's IMO fail and Geno is no exception. Can someone please show even one instance last season where he hit his 3rd option?
This is all stuff that Geno needs to improve on. The closest to a tell tale sign for Geno will be during scrimmages in full pads mimicking the regular season. Lets hope we can get a good idea of how he's truly playing at that time.
