I attribute the penalties and missed tackle (sack) to excitement, which is understandable with the kid playing in his first NFL game, and he's an excitable kid to being with, because he cares and this really matters to him.Mauldin looks awesome. Most excited I've been about a young OLB since Abraham. I expect him to make an impact as a rookie. He will get more of those penalties though.

Was listening to Ross Tucker's show this AM on NFL-Sirius, and his guest was commenting on what rookies stood out in their opening game. He mentioned Clark the DE from Michigan, Abdullah and LWilliams of Jets. I didn't think Williams did anything spectacular, but I don't study film for a living either. He said that Williams played all over the DL, played with power, leverage and speed and clearly is everything the Jets and the rest of the league (except 1st 5 teams in draft) thought he would be. Very good news indeed. I also thought Mauldin looked the part as well, and I could see him easily surpassing higher drafted rush OLBs like Ray. Williams and Mauldin could be the next generation of great Jet front 7 talent.
I agree, but the initial poster I responded to admitted its a huge IF about Milliner staying healthy. He was essentially saying, in the unlikely event that he actually stays on the field this year when he comes back. I do agree that Milliner has starters talent, but I also agree that his staying healthy is a longshot. This is year 3 of Milliner being injured heading into the season. If he was a QB, we'd be predicting he should be cut by the end of training camp. Amazing what we do and do not have patience for...
Indeed, great post, Old15Good post.
I'm not going crazy about our pathetic performance on defense. I do think Cromartie and Skrine are going to disappoint, but overall I think our defense will be top 10, with a shot at top 5. I just can't go crazy because Coach Bowles admitted it was Vanilla and he let his coaches call the plays. And I was fine with O, because the line looked great. I can't expect an explosion from them, because Fitzpatrick is limited, but I do expect them to be competent
