Still have to make 13 more cuts prior to 4pm. Also the roster will take many turns before set. Even after 4pm today, I'm sure the Jets will be studying the waiver wire for more moves.
I agree, E, I was down on him last year and didn't think he would make the team at the start of camp, but he actually had a good preseason so I projected him making it on my final 53 projections. I'm a little surprised he was cut.Babin is still valuable. I think he'll be good for someone. Maybe that attitude is what got him cut.

These remaining cuts will be difficult! It's crazy how in one year how much depth our roster has!

We will resign Johnson after week 1 and keep him until Geno gets back, just have to hope for no injuries vs Cleveland
Good sign that we have a lot more talent on the team than in past years.
Doubtful. If they were going to do that they wouldn't cut him till next week so he can get some practice.

great restraint by rex ryan thus far today. Hasn't picked up the five players dismissed by rutgers yet.
If they were going to bring Johnson back, he wouldn't get cut until next weekend. You don't cut a QB 8 days prior to game 1 with the thinking of bring him back.
That would make no sense.
Why would you have him take up a spot on your 53 man roster and then cut him later in the week?
Flynn or Johnson will likely be re-signed after Week 1.
I'm not exactly sure how this works, I'm not a "rules guy" per se, but I think you have to cut the player prior to the start of the season and he can't be on the roster for week one if you want to make sure his salary or a significant chunk of his salary is NOT guaranteed. Its a calculated gamble because it exposes him to other teams, but they might feel like the risk is worth it because they have TWO GUYS (Johnson and Flynn) they can bring back following week one. Flynn's salary apparently was not guaranteed for some procedural matter, so that would indicate Johnson is the guy they want to bring back, but Flynn gives them insurance in case Johnson is snatched (and I don't think he will be).If they were going to bring Johnson back, he wouldn't get cut until next weekend. It makes a ton of sense. Your way of thinking you have to cut someone after week 1to get back the QB.
Also Johnson if you are bring Johnson back wouldn't you want him on the team next week to practice? He's only had two practices to date.
And as for Flynn, his salary isn't guaranteed anyway because the Raiders paid termination pay last year. You are only allowed to collect Termination pay once.

The other interesting aspect of this that I haven't seen discussed is the IR & PUP Rules. There's only one short-term IR you can use out of camp and I believe thats being used on Dee Milliner. As for the PUP, it can only be used on guys who started the preseason on the PUP and haven't practiced with the team, like Stevan Ridley, so Geno was NOT PUP eligible.
HOWEVER, I think once the 53 man roster is set and you have adequately cutdown to 53, then you can PUP players on the 53 to open another roster spot. So that means, once the 53 is set, then we can PUP Geno and open a roster spot to bring back Johnson or Flynn. Again, its a calculated risk, but I think it will work in this instance.
Hmmm...I wasn't aware of that termination pay clause. That makes cutting Flynn even more curious.
Not sure if its 4 or 6. I think its 6, at which point you can then release Johnson or Flynn, whoever you brought back, and you're not on the hook for their whole salary because you brought them back after week one.If they were to put Geno on the PUP list, how many weeks would he have to sit before he would be eligible to come back?
