Are we Jets fans delusioned about this season?

So I'm watching all or most of these sports shows on NFLN, FOX, CBS sports and ESPN. I'm also listening to sports shows on Sirius ESPN, Mad Dog channel and the Fantasy Football channel and majority of these experts or analyst are picking the Jets to not make the playoffs. Not only that but their picking the Jets to be a below 500 winning team. Now Kurt Warner on NFLN did say that all AFC East teams would finish with a above 500 record but he didn't say the Jets would make the playoffs. There are a few more pundits that are showing the Jets some love but majority seem not to be.

Even Mike Greenberg and another ESPN radio personality that host a late night show aren't showing the Jets any love, AND THEY ARE ADMITTED DIE-HARD LOVING JETS FANS. I'm hearing Fitz is a definite upgrade from Geno but he won't be enough because his talent is so limited and never been a winning QB. I'm hearing B. Marshall has lost a step or two and because of Fitz lack of talent, that will also effect his production this year. Their saying this all will put to much pressure on the D, o-line and RBs and they won't be able to carry the team the entire year.

So what's the deal here Jets faithful, from majority of our post it appears we see it differently and have the Jets winning 10-11 games and a wild-card team. Are we all mistaken here or does the pundits have it all wrong? I don't think any of us are delusional enough to think we will be anymore then a round one playoff team but majority of the pundits won't even give us that. They seem to be favoring Buffalo, Miami, Baltimore, Indy, Pittsburgh, KC, Denver and of course NE. So what's the deal Jets faithful?

We do drink the Koolaid around here a little bit, but I think you guys are a knowledgeable and realistic group.
The media guys have to make broad statements and they don't have the time to delve into all of the nuances of each team.
And they all love star quarterbacks: that is factor number 1 to those guys. There is no love for a traveler like Fitz, and the media types don't like a comeback story until it has actually happened - for our QB or our team.

I agree, national shows are never accurate because by nature they know a little bit about every team and have to generalize.

I don't care what these people say. If things bounce our way I'm not sure there is a team that we can't beat. Our defense is going to be great I think especially once Sheldon is back. With Fitz, we are a steady, but unimpressive offense. If we had Geno I wouldn't feel as optimistic only because of the unknown that he is. I think we have improved in almost every part of our team even if its just by subtracting and not adding a player. I really like Bowles and the attitude he has brought to the team. He has started to cleanup Rex's messes and Mac cleaned up Idzik's. We may not make the playoffs but I like our direction.

Makes since. There seemed to be no love when Vinny took over but he helped take us to 12 wins and a AFC championship game. So I see where your coming from. However; I had faith in Vinny's talent and ability and I don't in Fitz (AT ALL). I think Fitz can have a decent season only because of his decision making (HOPEFULLY) and making the short to mid-range passes and letting the skilled players do the rest. I have no confidence in him throwing the 30 plus yard bombs or taking the team on his back like Vinny could if he had to.

True enough Vinny didn't have to because we had a championship caliber team. We were stacked at all positions pretty much but you could see it in Vinny's game, if he had to carry the team at any point of his time with us, he could. I don't see that in Fitz (AT ALL). Anyway, I think the pundits are wrong and I see us as a 10 maybe 11 win team but I only see that if the D, o-line and Rbs carry the team and Fitz play the safest limited TO season he can.

I agree also with most of that if you compare Vinny to Fitz as far as arm talents. I think Fitz feels comfortable which brings a calm to the Jets QB position that we haven't seen since Pennington.

the OL is the unit i feel the least confident about going into the season..

if they can keep fitzpatrick upright & he plays at the level he did last year i got us winning 10+ games..

if that's delusional in the eyes of media, so be it..

The Bengals won 10 games and made the playoffs with Andy Dalton and his 19 TD's and 17 int's. I think Fitz can match that and possibly do better. Our run game and defense has to be among the best.

Everyone seems to love Miami and Buffalo right now. The Jets aren't getting much attention, but that's fine by me. Set the expectations low, and watch the Jets shatter them. Are Tannehill and Tyrod Taylor better than Fitzpatrick? Taylor hasn't played a regular season game yet, and Tannehill has been average to this point.

Defensively, the Jets are going to be at least as good as Buffalo, and better than Miami. Coaching? Philbin is one bad year away from being fired, and we all know how quickly things can unravel with Wrecks. So is Bowles really a disadvantage for the Jets?

I'm not quite sure why they're getting love, and the Jets aren't.

I love your break down analogy. I do see Tannehill on the rise but he has been average or slightly above so far. Although last year was sorta a breakout year for him. Tyrod is a unknown but the way he runs and throws that ball, he could be deadly if he can stay healthy and has the mental aspects of the game. Rex just may have gem in Tyrod. The problem for the Bills is Wrecks himself, he just seems to find away to self destruct a good or great team. Philbin is on the hot seat or should have done more since he's been Miami's coach. So I see no advantage at HC there against Bowles but Belibitch is ofcourse. Our D will be the best in the division I think. Bills and Phins will be close but I think ours has the edge. NE offense has to carry there team this year. I think we have the best overall combo of RBs also. We'll see how it all turns out. The division will be intense as hell and this will be a very interesting year.

Isn't it funny how last year the"experts" ripping Rex as just a good coordinator are now supporting him?

Haven't I pointed out these very things many times over on this site? Jets fans on this site for the most part are delusional. They have constant and never ending visions of grandeur. When the truth is, we SUCK.

This season it won't change. They have a great defense and I look forward to watching that unit. But I can tell you right now the offense will have me disgusted. Not sure about special teams, so I'll keep my predictions to myself. I am optimistic, but I'm not sure the coaching is there.

A factual and objective evaluation of this team is a probable 7-9 to possibly 9-7 record. NOTHING special. Very middle of the road and typical of the Jets for many years now.

So I guess if it satisfies Jets fans to rise to .500 from a 4-12 record, then have at it. But, personally for me, this team is a pathetic, sh*tty embarrassment. I like what MacCagnan is doing for the team, but the team is still MILES away from respectability.

Don't you think you've gone a little bit to far with this? I mean damn!!! Our D is BOSS and will keep us in just about every game. Maybe even win 6-7 games. Our Rbs as a combo are the best overall in the division IMO and combined, can probably run for 1700-2000 yards. Our o-line can be very formidable this year and didn't look half bad in the pre-season. True enough is was pre-season but it counts for something.

Our WRs combined are very good as a whole. Marshall can still catch 80-100 passes for 1000 plus yards and 10 or more TDs, (if we just had the QB to get him the damn ball). Decker count 81 last year, I believe with garbage ass Geno. So imagine what he can do this year with all the pressure off him now with Marshall on one side and D. Smith (when he comes back) in the slot or outside. Our other WRs aren't half bad either and will help Marshall and Decker.

Our crunch is QB, whether Geno or Fitz but they still can make it work. Geno is the unknown and more then likely will make the bone-head mistakes that can cost games but with talent around him, maybe he doesn't make as many. Fitz can be a lot more consistent you would think by using his brain more and just taking what the D gives him. If the D can win 6-7 games themselves, then all the offense has to do is not lose any or many games.

The O will have to do their part or hold their own for maybe 3-4 games and possibly win 1-2 games. That all adds up to 10-11 wins on the high side of my numbers. This season can turn out to be a very good one with just average QB play. Yes it puts more pressure on the D, o-line, receivers, RBs and special teams but this is a team game. Teams that don't have that franchise QB like ours have to find other ways, anyway to win. They can do it!

Your argument does not align with your facts. You mentioned 9-7 as being possible, most posters predict 10 wins and a wildcard spot behind the Patriots.
So disagreeing with you about the outcome of one game makes someone dalusional?

6-10 sounds reasonable, with a few meaningless wins at the end of the season just to screw up our draft position.

Nearly impossible to have high expectations after a 4-12 season especially without a big time QB. I feel good about our chances. Let them all under estimate us.

If Fitz limits the turnover then I think this is a playoff team no matter what else the offense does. Defense will be that good imo
