I'm going to keep this thread going during the season, since he is now crucial to our season. I think we may have possibly upgraded with the injury to Cro. Regardless , I always thought the kid was a player. He will have some bad spots, but we all know, Cro would've also. Williams played better today, no question. I'm so happy with the effort.


I hope the poster who predicted Williams would be cut this preseason, shows up in this thread, and gives the kid some credit. I doubt it

He certainly came in and played well. Hopefully he keeps it going and does improve our backfield!

Bowles called him "one of his favorite players, a 6/7 year starter". If Cro is out Williams is starter.

I'd feel bad for Cro if he missed the entire season but I'd look forward to seeing Marcus out there and establish himself as a starting corner, somebody who would take over next to Revis. He has all the skills and tools to be a #1 corner. Size, speed, ball skills, awareness, tackling, he understands coverages, he recognizes routes. I'm excited for him, I think he'll have a huge year for us. I don't want to say Cro going down might be a good thing for us because I don't want to see anybody go down, but I really think the defense will be better off with Marcus out there. Revis on the other side, Skrine in the slot, I really like those 3.

I think we're getting a little crazy around here about Marcus Williams. I need to see a hell of a lot more outta him before I start saying he's a better option than everything else we've got. One INT doesn't mean anything.

It was more than a pick. He played great coverage all game. But yes, we need to see more. Great start.

Believe me, I'd love to see Williams play well. He looked great on the INT. Better than Cro looked on the TD from Johnny Football. That's for sure.

But I'm still hoping Cro Daddy just has a sprain. I'm a lot more comfortable with him than Marcus Williams. We're a better team with Cromartie than without him.

Yes, but it looks like he is done for the year. Hope not. Good thing Milliner will be back, injury prone or not

He's already half way through his rookie contract and he won't even see action this year until week 9.....but I hope you're right, Cy, I would love for him to come in and prove me wrong!

Anyone can have a good game, you're a good player in this league when you can do it consistently from week to week.

That said, I am especially encouraged by Bowles post game remarks. He's not Rex Ryan, he doesn't throw compliments around like confetti, its rare to hear him talking up his own players, but after the game he had some really high praise for Williams and called him 'one of his favorite players.'

Considering the short amount of time they have been together and all of the talent we have on defense, for Bowles to call Williams one of his favorite players on the team, that tells me that Williams was consistently outstanding in training camp and today he took that into the game. IOW's this could be a young player on the verge of really ascending, and now he may get that chance. I hope Crow is okay, but if he isn't, sounds like Bowles has a lot of confidence in Williams.

I don't know who that poster was but I'm betting money it was sg3. Anyway and on a better note, Williams is a gamer and should get consistent play even if Cro returns. He should be the starter in fact if Cro doesn't return, he's earned it after this game. I knew our secondary was going to be monstrous this year but I didn't realize how deep they really are. We forget about the fact that Milliner, Allen and McDougle in I'm correct are injured. Milliner was a the 11th pick in the draft two years ago, Allen started last year (all year) and McDougle was supposed to contribute last year also. Wow, our secondary and defense can possibly be scary this year.

Rex had nothing to do with Marcus Williams. Let's give credit were credit is do, John Idzik scooped Williams off the Cowboys P.S., as they were trying to hide him for a couple of days, before putting him back on the active 53 in Dallas.
