one negative is the jets had 2 or 3 personal foul penalties. while they have cleaned up the act on regular penalties, the 15 yard personal fouls are killers

I've always been a fan of Gailey and prefer the old school OC's because they aren't going to outsmart themselves and get cute. Very conservative last night which i expected.

There are 4 main factors for me that are making the Jets 2-0 and look like world beaters.

1) BETTER talent. This is the biggest reason why we are 2-0. Rex Ryan was asked to chicken salad out of chicken sh*t his last 4 seasons in NY. Todd Bowles, on the other hand, has great talent on his first Jets team. Brandon Marshall? Leonard Williams? Buster Skrine?

NONE of those guys were on last years team. And make no mistake about it, these guys have been HUGE difference makers between this and last season.

2) Turnovers - Now this could also go directly back to talent, but I don't believe it does. Rex Ryan, for all his coaching qualities, just could NEVER get turnovers. This just never made any sense to me. With defenses as talented as ours were, they should have gotten far more turnovers. This is omething that always annoyed me when Rex was in town.

Todd Bowles obviously has this defense looking for and sniffing out turnovers. What a huge difference it is between winning and losing when you have a positive turnover differential. The Jets are what? +8 right now? You're going to win a lot of ball games when you can have that huge of a disparity between giving up and taking the ball.

3) Penalties - The Jets are a much cleaner playing team. They commit far less penalties. Is it any wonder why Buffalo lost to NE after committing 14 penalties for 140 yards? That is called shooting yourself in the foot. This is also the complete OPPOSITE of the 2015 New York Jets.

The NYJ, in their first two games, have started with a few penalties in both games, but very quickly they have gotten their play under control in both of those games. They start to play textbook LEGAL football. Nobody should ever underestimate the huge impact this has had on this team and will have in the future.

4) QB - The NYJ have always had turnover machines as their QB's for the last 6 seasons. Now? they have a QB that is merely taking what the defense is giving him. he's doing a very nice job of protecting the ball. This is something Geno Smith could NEVER do and I truly hope that Fitz ends up staying the starter even after Geno is ready to go. This is a bright positive for the team as a whole.

Agree with almost everything you posted. The Jets did have 8 penalties last night. That still needs to be worked on

Skrine was fun to watch, he's like a flying squirrel on riddilin.

I like that our veteran players are pulling it together and succeeding under pressure. It will be fun to watch this team gel, and add Richardson, smith, Milliner

I doubt Milliner is ever added to the active roster again, and hopefully Smith never has to take a snap on this team ever again. But I am excited about adding Richardson to this pass rush

I agree with that. Especially with Decker possibly missing a few weeks and Kerley in bad with the staff.

Millner isn't taking Cro or Skrine's spot, nor is he taking Marcus William's spot. McDougle hasn't been dressing either. Doubt he cracks this lineup unless some injuries rack up

Don't agree with Breno's or Coples' (don't remember if there was a 3rd).

Maybe I'm being a homer, but I believe both were a result of the wussifying of the league (as opposed to poor judgement by the player). Breno was protecting his teammate on the ground, and Coples HAD to grab Luck that way in order to get him down. Not too long ago both plays would have been applauded, but now they are condemned.

Of course I hate seeing the stupid personal fouls, but I'll accept ones like yesterday if they're the result of players showing the hustle/emotion to win on a consistent basis . . .

I agree with this. The calls on Giocomo and Coples were bogus. How doe a player get a roughing the passer penalty sacking the QB below the head?

Elias brought up a good point, how many catches did our TE's have last night ? Cumberland & Davis were silent. The only concern I have with Fitz is the long ball. He floats it up there for grabs in double coverage quite a bit. I think his strength is the dink & dunk passes, which a TE would help him out a lot. Get the TE more involved in the passing attack.

Of course Fitz doesn't have a cannon arm, but I think a lot of those floaters are by design.

I noticed last night, particularly in the red zone, Fitz seems to go through the same progression. First he looks for Decker over the middle, if that's covered, and heat is coming, he throws a jump ball for Marshall. One of them went bad last night when Mike Adams made a spectacular defensive play in the end zone and came down with the interception. Marshall is going to win a lot of those jump ball situations. Think it's a great option to use when under heat in the red zone.

Another floater that was thrown was that beautiful , soft back shoulder pass, into double coverage, Fitz made to Marshall at the 2 yard line that Marshall bulled into the end zone. Might have been the biggest play of the game.

Nothing wrong with getting a soft ball into the hands of a playmarer, and let him make a play

breno hit a guy late, after the play had ended. coples sacked luck by grabbing his neck and helmet. if that happened to a jets QB, people here would be furious if not penalty was called. taking off the jets-green glasses, both were personal fouls we would hope would be called if the sides were reversed. you may say you applaud a player for protecting his teammate, but it's a penalty nevertheless.

the 3rd was an unsportsman like conduct against davis after we recovered the gore fumble. i didn't see what happened to opine on it. but that pushed us back to the 10 (instead of a touchback) and led to a 3 and out and a crappy quigley punt. fortunately we intercepted luck the next drive after they started at midfield.

I don't think Milliner is taking anyone's spot, I'm more impressed with our depth. Having a top 10 pick cb just trying to get his own locker.

Kind of off topic, but I noticed an interesting stat, or lack of a stat. Jets had 0 sacks Someone looking at that sack total would think the Jets had no pass rush.

Another stat, that is often over looked is QB hits. Jets had 11. Four of them led to an elite QB into throwing 3 interceptions, and fumbling the football away. When it's all said and done, that's what cost the Colts the football game. Most under appreciated stat in football.

Just to give kudo's to guys who deserve it, Skrine, Leonard Williams, and Calvin Pace all had 1. Demario Davis, Leger Douzable, Muhammad Wilkerson, and Quinton Coples all had two. Front 7 had a real nice night.

no offense ham, but weren't you one saying that we had no chance to compete with fitz as the QB. that we were better off tanking the season to get a REAL QB? i find it hard to bash the media and the football public at large for overlooking the jets when many jets fans were expressing the same opinions.

Its true, I was really down on the QB situation, but I loved what Mac did with the rest of the team.

I said all along this is a playoff team, IF they can get a decent performance for the QB and he doesn't blow it. I didn't think that would be Fitz, so I didn't like our chances once Geno got decked, but Fitz has exceeded my expectations, by a lot.

Was watching sports center last nite before the game.
Announcer and Antonio pierce, commentary goes like this .
"Colts , Colts, blah blah blah"

sarcastically "Imagine the Jets go 2-0 and colts go 0-2
Pierce,making face "ewwwww".
That defense last nite had Luck, Pagano, and their entire team in " awe "
They looked in complete disbelief when they showed them on the sideline.

The Colts were in awe last week too. Buffalo looks better on paper because of the big money contracts but the Jets got players. Nobody is moving the Jets out of wild card position, they have a shot.

I openly admit I might be acting homerish, but it's a pretty lame definitioin of "hit the guy late" when all Breno did was knock down a guy hovering over his teammate, with the acceleration he'd already built up to that point (ie he didn't seek the guy out and purposely try to start something).

We'll DEFINITELY agree to disagree with what Coples did. If you want to say it's against the rules, fine. But that was the ONLY way he was getting Luck down from the angle he approached him (again, no intent to injure). He didn't grab the helmet or the horsecollar -- he just used his massive strength to get Luck down.

The LAST thing I want is my team letting up on plays because they're afraid the ref might call something. That will result is negatives WAY more harmful than 15 yard penalties, which is why I had no problem with either of those fouls, and hopefully Bowles didn't either . . .

not to say we didn't have a handful here who thought fitzpatrick would play well..
