Injury Updates: Revis sounds fine, Colon sounds serious

Cornerback Darrelle Revis said he's "fine" after tweaking a hamstring, but there wasn't as much optimism surrounding a knee injury to right guard Willie Colon, who was replaced in the third quarter of the New York Jets' 24-17 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday.

Colon wasn't in the locker room during the media period, but he was seen later being driven out of the stadium on a golf cart -- always an ominous sign. Coach Todd Bowles provided no information on Colon's status.

Colon, who underwent arthroscopic knee surgery in 2014, suffers from a chronic knee issue. In fact, he was limited in practice last week and was listed as questionable on the injury report. It's unclear if he hurt his surgically repaired knee.

A long-term injury would be a blow to the offense. Colon, 32, is the senior member of the line, the vocal leader of the group. He brings an element of toughness to the team, an intangible that would be missed. He was replaced by Brian Winters, who has struggled in pass protection in past years. He allowed a pressure on Ryan Fitzpatrick's second interception, getting pushed backward by defensive end Brandon Bair, who deflected the pass at the line of scrimmage. Linebacker Jordan Hicks made the interception on the tip.

Revis, who entered the game with a strained groin, played all but the final series. That's when the hamstring flared up.

"I will be fine," he said.

Winters sucks is what bothers me. Game changer for the opposition . literally game changing plays on his watch. Improve or next man up.

Winters is terrible. as much as everyone liked the picked at the time, including myself, he's been terrible in the NFL. It seems like he's not learning from the coaches or he's incapable of improving from what we've already seen. Either way something has to give. he should be a starter by now and he's not. It might be time to cut bait with Winters after this season.

Hopefully Harrison is ready as he represents our future at the OG position.

Kind of agree, but are they going to put a green rookie, in his first start against Suh?

Oh my

Suh would be a nightmare for a rookie and for a guy like Winters as well. I guess we are going to have to pick our poison, maybe Dozier is a better stopgap.

If I'm the Jets, I prepare a game plan for this one similar to a lot of the game plans we saw in 2009 and 2010, featuring an extra offensive lineman (those years it was hunter) lining up at the TE spot for extra protection. No clue who we should be starting at G if Colon is out (assume he is) and that matchup is potentially scary, but if we throw an extra OT in there like Iljana at TE I think protection wise we would be doing ourselves a favor.

Jets RG Willie Colon has been diagnosed with a sprained knee, and is week to week.
He'll miss Sunday's London contest against the Dolphins, but might be ready to return after the Jets' Week 5 bye. Brian Winters is filling in during Colon's absence. Sep 28 - 2:51 PM

We don't use the TE anyway so that might work.

Q: Have the #Jets told you how long Willie Colon will be out?

Nick Mangold: "No. I think that's a HIPAA violation."
