Brian Winters and the RG situation

Brian Winters is dogshit.

If he's starting at RG next week, I am going to seriously question Todd Bowles ability to evaluate talent.

I would rather start the raw rookie, Jarvis Harrison, whom Gil Brandt loved in the draft and projected as a first year starter, than this absolute piece of dogshit, Brian Winters.

His performance yesterday when he came in for Colon was a disgrace. It very well may have cost us the game, and the sad part is, he got dominated by an absolute nobody, this Bair guy who even the announcers said they had never heard of prior to this game, and I bet none of you ever heard of him either, but you sure as hell know him now.

Brian Winters turned that guy into Mean Joe Greene.

I'm actually getting more and more furious as I type this, so I'll end it with this, if Colon's injury is as serious as it appears to be and we need a new RG, it BETTER NOT be Brian Winters. I don't care if its Harrison, Dozier, Qvale or the bartender at my neighborhood pub, but it better not be Brian Winters.

What he did yesterday when he came in for Colon, especially following that huge 4th Qtr turnover that gave us a real chance to comeback and steal this game late, we finally had the momentum and a real chance to steal it, when he let that Bair guy steamroll him like a piece of garbage and tip Fitzpatrick's pass, which resulted in the game-ending INT (and you could have turned your television sets off right there), did not qualify him for another start, it qualified him to GET CUT!!!

Thats right, even if Colon is down for the season, I would still CUT BRIAN WINTERS off that disgraceful performance. This guy has absolutely no business being on this team. He makes Vlad Duccasse look like Larry Allen. HE SUCKS and he's an absolute dog. Get him outta here so we don't even have the temptation to put his sorry ass in another game.

You nailed it hammer. Huge concern evaluation wise. Confident though the right decision's made. Shit if it were just up to me I'd had already cut him. He should be cut.

Someone reminded me that he did the same thing in Green Bay last year and it changed the entire complexion of the game. We were dominating the game to that point and looked like we were going to upset the Packers in Lambeau, which would have been a stunning upset and started us at 2-0, then Winters got steamrolled by his man, similar to yesterday, and it was the exact same result, a tipped pass at the LOS that turned into an INT, and the entire complexion of the game switched at that moment, after that play it was ALL GREEN BAY. Soon as I was reminded I remembered it.

Agree with you on WInters -- what a friggin nightmare that guy is. Was pushed back into Fitz face all 2nd half. Good news at least is that Mehta is reporting that Colon's injury is not season ending:

Jets RG Willie Colon's right knee injury isn't believed to be season-ending. Left MetLife Stadium in a cart. #nyj

But still, if Ndamakong Suh lines up opposite Winters next week, it could be a long afternoon in London. Any veterans available on the waiver wire???

He got playing time in his rookie season only because it was so obvious that Vladimir Ducasse absolutely must go. Now, we are finding out the very same thing with Brian Winters. This guy has been given numerous chances to fall into place and he cannot. I'm all for the Jets having depth that they can plug in, but Brian Winters is not a competent replacement for anyone at anytime. MacCagnan is only holding on to this guy because he inherited him and he couldn't fix all of the teams woes in one offseason. It's going to take a little time.

As far as I am concerned, the guy should be cut/traded in the this offseason. He's worn out his welcome in NY. Any good he was ever going to do for the NYJ, he's already done and it is clearly not good enough.

Todd Bowles is also not to blame for this. He's merely playing the hand he was dealt. But it very much speaks volumes about the level of talent with our replacements. At least Brian Winters needs to be replaced. What I hate is General Managers with big egos like Tanny and Idzik both had. It was very clear after an amount of time that Ducasse was a bust of a 2nd round pick. Yet Tanny kept him on the roster. That, to me, was the GM being unwilling to admit fault for drafting him.

I don't want a GM that has too high of an opinion of himself and his drafting. I want the guy that isn't afraid to admit he made a mistake. This way we rid the team of all the bad picks almost immediately.

All Brian Winters is, is Vladimir Ducasse part Two. The NYJ have a done an absolutely HORRENDOUS of drafting OL in the past 5 years. Anyone that is decent that is playing for the NYJ came in through FA. Their picks have been washes. Ducasse was a complete waste and it is rather obvious that Brian Winters is a complete waste of a 4th round pick.

Winters was started in 2013 as a rookie ahead of Vlad Ducasse when it was obvious change was needed. But that change never came. Winters is nearly as bad as his predecessor.

More importantly the constant bad drafting is setting this team back x amounts of years every time they do it and that must change. Mike MacCagnan needs to look at his NYJ history books and understand that he MUST hit on the OL he picks because this team is in such dire straits with regards to depth.

I don't like Winters, either. But the question is, what does the coaching staff see? They obviously felt Winters was better than Oday, and also better than Harrison and Dozier. That doesn't sound like a very positive endorsement of the depth behind Colon.

There isn't a positive endorsement of the depth behind Dozier. The FO is merely playing the hand that they have been dealt for right now. it takes more than one offseason to get things the way MacCagnan would like them and he couldn't fix everything in one offseason.

The fact of it all is the following:

The Jets have NOT drafted an OL that has actually given us ANY good play since Matt Slauson in the 6th round in 2009. Since then, the Jets have drafted MANY hopefuls. They've used 2nd all the way to the 7th round, but they have altogether MISSED on every one of them. The jury is still out on a guy like Dakota Dozier, but based on Idzik and Tanny's drafting, I wouldn't hold out much hope.

2010 2nd round - Vlad Ducasse was complete garbage. The very definition of a busted pick.
2011 NO OL taken
2012 Robert Griffin - Contributed nothing
2013 Brian Winters is garbage to the level of Vlad Ducasse.
Oday Aboushi - Dope smoker that never contributed anything, no longer on the team.
Will Campbell - Contributed nothing
2014 Dakota Dozier - Jury is still out, Just being fair
2015 Jarvis Harrison - Jury is still out

The FO has collectively NEGLECTED the OL for years now. They've been trying to get players on the cheap. Using mid round to late round picks on rolls of the dice. Well, they got what they paid for. They paid for nothing and got nothing.

So once again, they haven't drafted any decent since 2009 and 2006 before that. Their OL besides Brick and Nick, has been comprised of all FA's.

It's time for the NYJ to take blocking and controlling the LOS much more seriously. I would advocate investing our 1st round pick on an OL if a QB is not available in the 2016 draft.

We would have still finished 5-11 and then missed out on Williams. So in a way Winters gave us Leonard Williams. He has contributed something at least.

He was horrible to. Rather go with the rookie Harrison.

Except the line was much more stable when he took over last year. And the numbers are there to back that up. Ive posted them before

Am I crazy in thinking that Brian Winters was a huge reason for our run game having a great game last week? I felt like Winters played great replacing Colon.

He may suck at pass protection but I think he is very good at run blocking.

Winters played a great game against Suh. In the passing game also. Fitz has only been sacked twice this season. Starting to look like the weak OL play last year was really the QB holding the ball to long. With that said, Winters played very badly against the Eagles.

Rust perhaps? I don't know.

Coaches would like for Winters to step up, he's a big, quick, athletic guy. We saw that against the Fish how quick he was pulling and getting outside.

Guess we'll have to see what happens next. Suspect Colon will start against the Skins.

He actually did a terrific job at both verses Miami, run blocking and pass blocking. I commented on that in the game thread and gave him huge kudos. The degree to which Winters neutralized Suh was the single most shocking aspect of that game too me, especially after he got spanked by some nobody verses Philly. But I give him credit, he came back the following week and showed some pride after that dismal performance, and actually got the best of Suh in my view.

It's almost miraculous that Fitz didn't get sacked a few times against Miami. Winters played well, outside of a couple of penalties he had. Suh got paid large, and has been a big no-show this season.

You're absolutely right and I am shocked. I honestly didn't think he had it in him. As I posted already, I thought he was another chip off the old Vladimir Ducasse block. Another useless project.

Now I still do question if he's capable of being CONSISTENTLY good. But I do not question his performance against one of the most dominant defensive tackles in the league today. He was great and he deserves all of the credit to go along with it.

I was wrong and I couldn't be happier. But lets be real about this. He NEEDS to start to perform like that consistently. The Jets are still going to have to cut him if he's hanging his hat on one good performance. He just set his new expectation and this fan is never going to accept anything less. And why should we? He already had a nearly perfect performance against the best. Shouldn't it all be as hard or less from here on out?

Whether you like Winters or not, he might be one of the strongest & nastiest players on our team. He takes no crap from anyone, and might be our RG of the future. We ran Matt Slauson out of town, and he turned into a good player, lets not make the same mistake with Winters.

My concern is he did this vs. Suh that looks like Haynesworth. Some consistency is needed now.
