Brian Winters and the RG situation

Whether you like Winters or not, he might be one of the strongest & nastiest players on our team. He takes no crap from anyone, and might be our RG of the future. We ran Matt Slauson out of town, and he turned into a good player, lets not make the same mistake with Winters.

Go Jets...Cyborg

How did the Jets run Matt Slauson out of town?

I think he means jets fans but I don't think we as fans ran him out of town. I always thought he was a decent lineman.

Well, if he means Jets fans, then HOW did Jets fans run him out of town?

To my knowledge, Matt Slauson got a better offer in FA from the Bears? How that constitutes running Slauson out of town, I haven't the faintest idea?:i-dont-know-smiley-

I do recall people saying he sucked but can't remember the exact circumstance. We can ask Cy when he comes back. I didn't think losing Slauson was a big deal at the time but it would be great to have him back now

At this point I would say he showed in the Miami game, verses one of the most dominant DT's in the game (Suh), that he can play and start in this league, but his performance verses Philly was downright alarming and that makes him wildly inconsistent. Every word I said about him in my initial post, based on his performance verses Philly, was true. I stand behind every word of it "coming off that (atrocious) performance", but on the flip side, based on his performance verses Miami, every word you said in this post is equally true. Will the real Brian Winters please stand-up?

Yeah, I was surprised when the Jets let him go through FA. I thought he played quite well. He was no Alan Faneca, but he was a nice replacement in my opinion. Would have been nice to hold on to him.

Yes it was and I said the same thing. I was terrified he was going to go all Adrien Clarke against Suh, and single handed lose the game.

He played great. For now I'm going to just hope it was rust against the Birds. It would be a major gift if this guy has improved from last season into what his physical skills say he could be.

Yea, he played excellent against Suh. I was shocked, but if he can play like that, consistently, we might have something there.

Winters is clearly a better run blocker than Colon and the right side may be his fit. I give the credit to the lack of sacks to the QB playing and to Carpenter, who solidified the left side. Since Mangold/DBrick came together the LG spot has been the difference between great OL play or mediocre.

Yeah.

I went back and watched the Fish game. FF just to O plays. Watched Winters. Many plays he went 1-1 with Suh. Pancaked him twice. In pass protection, he got his hands on him, and got in his way. Nice job against an elite DL.

They did something with him they just can't do with Colon. Pull him to lead an outside tackle run play. He is quick, and athletic, again, good job.

Then I did the same thing in the last quarter of the Eagles game. Against a mediocre DT He was F-N horrible. Might of cost the Jets the game.

LOL Who's going to show up next time we see him.

I HOPE it the Winter's we saw against he Fish.

Well, that's the thing. We are talking about ONE good game. NOT many. NOT even a hand full. We are talking about ONE game that he's had.

This is why it's almost hard to believe? Could this just be a one game anomaly? Vlad Ducasse had one of those. Played great against Vince Wilfork in a game and everyone starting drinking the Ducasse Kool Aid. Then just one game later we found out Wilfork had a partially ruptured Achilles and went for the season. Is Suh injured? I just wonder what would make Winters so relevant so suddenly?

Suh is not injured. He was even playing with some passion, as was evidenced by his signature kick to Fitz's head.

The Fish D is in general playing awful . The players are blaming it on Kevin Coyle, who was fired today. but none the less Winters did a great job one on one with Suh. Stay tuned. I have no idea what happens next.

He must have impressed the new CS, because Abushi is gone, and Winters is still here.

I had seen enough after philly, but thankfully he proved big otherwise. Time to string that consistency together.
