meh.. i say cut bait at years end..

much like sanchez, smith will never get the benefit of the doubt from this fan base ever again & sanchez was/is a likeable guy.. hell, playing QB in NY is tough enough with the fans support!! LOLz smith was booed at the green & white (or whatever it's called) scrimmage after all reports of having a strong training camp..

he's a failed experiment FL.. cut bait..

If it was up to me, I would have kept Flynn, and IR'ed, or cut Smith

It is certainly possible that Smith is back next season. It is extremely unlikely he has any trade value. He is still under a fairly cheap rookie contract.

Only reason I see the Jets outright cutting him, would be if Bowles thinks after his behavior in the IK incident, that his presence in the locker room is detrimental to team chemistry.

I wouldn't say no trade value and maybe even more after the season. I was really down on him after the IK incident but as the season has gone on, it's become clear the QB situation around the league is poor. That is why I don't see the Jets cutting Smith if he is still under contract.

what we do have knowledge of is smith's teammates didn't prevent their starting QB from getting rocked by a marginal player with anger management issues..

we also know smith has had almost no public support from his teammates or coaching staff to this day..

so yes, i also believe smith is not well liked in the jets locker room much less respected..

you may call that an assumption.. i call it reading between the lines..

Thank you Jetgreen13. Obviously, this poster does not believe in "reading between the lines" as a means of interpreting what this team does. NFL teams can be very secretive at times and reading between the lines is really the only way you would ever get a full understanding.

There's nothing absurd about my post. That's just what you think. Process of deduction tells you all you need to know. Did anyone come to Geno's aid after he got popped by his teammate? Immediately after the incident, did anyone come to Geno's aid. Their silence was DEAFENING. Has anyone spoken in support of Geno since the incident? I also see articles just yesterday that they support Ryan Fitzpatrick and don't want Geno Smith back right now.

And dare I make the blanket assumption that no one amongst (very few exceptions) the fans really wants Geno back? They know what he did was a dick move.

I'm no fan of Geno... But this is what he needed... His talent is unquestioned... one thing and one thing only will get Geno to be a starter again. Sitting and learning...... If he learns and matures he has value. Will his value be more then Bryce Petty's to us next year or the year after... I doubt it.. But he is worth keeping around this year..

What is it with you and guy's with the last name Smith? His arm is strong, but his ability to read defenses, playmaking, decision making and leadership is all very much in question. That all goes into his "talent" makeup. The fact that people agree with that statement goes to show you that the homerisim is strong on these boards.

Clearly you aren't reading my comment properly.... So I'll break it down so you can understand

1. I DO NOT LIKE GENO..... CUT HIM FOR ALL I CARE

2. IF, very big IF, he has any value as an NFL QB he is going to need to mature by sitting down and learning from the bench..

3. Do I think Geno will be a valuable QB in the NFL as a backup or starter anywhere. NO!!!

I am not sure how you read any kind of homerism in my post but clearly you read something entirely different than my point. Below is my original post... I'll highlight the statements that put the context of my NON HOMERISM and no love for geno in BOLD..

the fact that anyone is still clamoring for the worst QB in the league is actually pretty funny to me.

The worse QB in the league? Have you watched any football this season? Weedon is now 0 for his last 11 starts. Cousins averages 2 picks a game. Have you seen the guys in Houston?

Geno hasn't been given a chance to defend the title so far this year. He blew them all away the last two years.

Last year is done and there are many QB's this season set to have worse year than Geno did the last two seasons. At least Geno isn't being paid like many of these fake franchise QB's.

Geno Smith was statistically the worst QB in the league the last two seasons. DEAD LAST. So if you think Geno won't be dead last THIS season? Good luck with that. I would personally much rather stick with Ryan Fitzpatrick when the team is currently 3-1 and Fitz has a positive TD to INT ratio. It's the MUCH safer choice.

I've been in favor of starting Fits since he came here. I've been defending Fîtz against yourself and others who think you need a so called franchise QB to have a chance. Only thing I said in Geno's behalf is the Jets won't just cut him with the sad league wide QB situation and Geno has some talent.

Maybe its just the year of the defense because lots of QB's look like Geno of the last two seasons.

Fact:

Nobody is changing anyone's mind about Geno Smith. Some believe he still has a chance to become a decent QB under ideal circumstances, and some believe he's not cut out for the NFL.

But please continue on with the endless Geno debate. It's slow around here on a bye week.

Geno may or may not have a future here but unless he starts acting like some of these other clowns off the field, then he will be on some roster. Even Kellen Clemens is still hanging around.

We'll put and understood, LOL. Not quite sure why the other poster didn't get it but I did. As someone who was a huge Geno supporter until this jawbreak gate BS, I was either blinded by what I'd hoped he be this year. Or wisely and cautiously optimistic by what I thought he could be with better weapons around him and another year of experience under his belt. With some hopeful maturity and leadership growth. Well how wrong was I about that and jawbreak gate proved that to me.

I then knew I had to be done with him and it was time to focus on Petty. Not saying that was your situation but it was mine. Anyway, Geno has alot of growing to do mentally before anyone will even remotely believe in him. As for his talent, he may or may not have gotten better and can only prove it "IF" he ever gets on the field again. As a Jet, I don't think he ever will. Fitz is playing well enough now to keep his job and when he is done for whatever reason, I believe the coaches will want to see what Petty has because they are done with Geno. IMHO!
