i was a big pennington fan & absolutely thought we finally had (once again) the kind of QB every team wants.. a true franchise QB..

but sadly, even before the multiple shoulder injuries, pennington got exposed in the playoffs as soon as he faced a big boy defense..

how does JFU compare fitzpatrick's arm to pennington's before & after the injuries..

if we get to the playoffs, will fitzpatrick look like pennington if/when we face a big boy defense as well??

Similar type players. Both very smart, arms before Penington's injury, about the same. After the second shoulder, Penny had nothing left

Pennington at his best was a much better QB. Incredibly accurate, excellent leadership qualities, smart as a whip. The whole team got exposed against the Raiders, who honestly at that time were the better team. It's a shame his body just wasn't up for the hits he took.

we are both on the same page as far as pennington is concerned..

fitzpatrick has two big, talented WR's, a stud RB, an OL that's doing a great job protecting him & a big boy defense..

can he beat a top tier defense in the playoffs if we get there??

Pennington, I believe it was rotator cuff, death for a QB. Damn he was good. 1st draft choice in the same draft as Brady and Pennington was every bit as good.
I don't see Fitzpatrick up to that, but what turns in the future is a mystery...love to see it though.

penny coming out of college was just as smart but was more accurate than fitz. Before the injury I believe their long ball was very similar after poor chad had nothing left.

It wasn't so much he was exposed during that game against the raiders it is they were just a better defensive team and beat up our players good. Penny took alot of hits that game I bet he was sore.

After the injury though he couldn't beat top teams because he could no longer put the team on his shoulders and win he needed alot of help like our team is built today. Just as fitzpatrick is doing penny could win with this team.

We would be a 14 win team this year with Pennington in his prime, and would go deep into the playoffs. Unfortunately you can't time your prime with your best supporting cast.

They are different QBs I wish we went farther with Pennington, and I'm glad Fitz is an adult. The most important trait in a qb is being calm and letting the game slow down. Fitz has taken his lumps enough to know this.

Just a side thought here but can we all remember that Pennington sat on the bench for awhile before he came in to be the franchise. I think he held the clipboard 2 years. Please lets be smart with Petty like this.

Anyway, its tough to compare. Physically they both were similar with the tools they were given.

Mentally they are both very smart but game mentality was definitely different. You never saw Pennington making careless throws or taking big chances. Pennington was also extremely accurate as others have mentioned.

My favorite part about Chads game though was his fake ability. He was one of the best. Always sold his fakes hard on every play and often fooled the camera. Often times he would turn his back to the defense on a fake while holding the ball for what seemed like forever. No one knew he still had the ball.

Pennington rarely took risks while Fitzpatrick on the other hand is a gun slinger. He has thrown into double coverage multiple times. I like that honestly. He takes his risks. As long as he knows the game situation and knows when to take risks I am okay with it.

As for Pennington, he was a great leader, exactly what you wanted in a qb. Too bad for his injury, which made his arm too weak to be productive in the NFL. He was just inking and dunking.

Chad will always hold a special spot on my mantel (signed helmet) & in my heart. I still think it was terrible how we sent him home on a public airlines from Minnesota after we signed Farve. He did come back and bite our ass after he took the Flipper's to the playoffs the following year. Those were two years I'd like to forget. Chad is the Man !

Fitzpatrick takes more chances. That is both good and bad. It leads to more picks, but it also makes at times for a more aggressive offense. Chad had better accuracy, Fitzpatrick throws a better deep ball. Both are smart and used their minds to make good reads, but Fitzpatrick's willingness to throw it into tighter spots and go deep more often lead to more explosive plays, but also more picks.

Can't remember who it was but a poster pointed that out the other day. I agree. it is the main reason I prefer Fitz over Smith. Fitz will take the shot, if it goes bad, it usually won't kill you. Smith will throw it up out of panic.

As far as Penny goes, I never understood the hatred for him, other then he wasn't Tom Brady, and was made of glass.

Decent QB, seemed to be a good guy.

I've noticed lately he is doing a lot with the Jets media department, and Eric Allen this year.

I know he said he would never coach, but I think he would be a great QB coach.

Exactly. And like Pennington, Kenny O was a pretty good QB. Tough as nails. Just had 0 pocket movement
agreed.. & marino & brady playing their entire pro careers in the AFCE exacerbated both situations all the more..

Chad when healthy is a much better QB... He was incredibly more accurate than Fitz.... Did not turn the ball over like Fitz... and had an uncanny ability to know when to throw the deep ball to hit his WR as they got the separation... For all the talk about how his arm strength was below average.... It was rare to see a WR slow down to have to catch a ball Chad threw. I remember Randy Moss saying Chad was the only QB he played for that didn't under throw him.... and he played with Culpepper in his prime who had a rocket... It's all about timing and accuracy and Chad was one of the best at that....

I honestly due not remember Pennington in the pros ever having a deep ball. He was accurate but his deep ball stunk from the very beginning. Could be wrong but that's how I remember him

I always was a Chad fan, who BTW actually had a pretty nice deep ball. Chad's biggest weakness was throwing outside the numbers.

Probably. Pennington was a much better player talent wise than Fitz. Penny just couldn't stay healthy though and therefore, Fitz is probably the better player overall.

But Fitz just isn't very good quarterback. I like what he's doing thus far for us. He's a decent stopgap until we can get Bryce Petty playing. But overall, the talent just isn't there.

If the Jets get to the playoffs, and there's a good chance we will, the Jets have a cupcake schedule, any good defense will eat up Ryan Fitzpatrick.

i'm holding out hope ivory stays healthy & our defense will go from very good to special with the addition of richardson..

if both things happen i believe the jets can make some noise in the playoffs (if we get there) with fitzpatrick..
