I have this feeling we're going to crush them, therefore, it's going to be close and I'll have no finger nails left.

On a side note I'll be watching it with my bro who's a big Skins fan. Should be fun!

I don't think they are going to give Richardson a ton of snaps. Williams has been playing great. Ofteen when a player comes back from a suspension, or a hold out, they get an injury trying to go full tilt. Think Bowles is smart enough to just try give him a few shifts.

Bowles did mention more than once in his press conference about protecting Sheldon from himself. I think he will be limited too

Redskins Will Try To Bully Jets In The Trenches On Both Sides Of Ball

Redskins Will Try To Bully Jets In The Trenches On Both Sides Of Ball

Redskins will try to bully Jets in the trenches on both sides of ball

3h
Rich Cimini, ESPN Staff Writer

FLORHAM PARK, N.J. -- Highlighting two players who figure to have integral roles for the New York Jets when they face the Washington Redskins on Sunday:

Breno Giacomini, right tackle: He called the Redskins "one of the top defenses in the league," and it starts up front. These dudes are huge; they're the defensive version of the Hogs. Nose tackle Terrance Knighton is 354 pounds, left end Chris Baker is 325 and right end Jason Hatcher a svelte 299. Washington's base front is a 3-4, so Giacomini will see a lot of Baker and outside linebacker Ryan Kerrigan. He and Baker are tied for the team lead with 3.5 sacks apiece.

The Redskins have the lowest blitz percentage in the league (11.4 percent of dropbacks), but they're 11th in sack percentage. So what does that tell us? It tells us they generate pressure with a conventional, four-man rush. Their run defense is Jekyll-and-Hyde. After allowing only 78 rushing yards per game in the first four games (second in the league), they were gashed last week by the Atlanta Falcons (176 yards). The Falcons did it with finesse, not power, stretching the defense horizontally with zone runs. The Jets aren't a zone team, so they'll have to rely on power. They need a strong game from Giacomini, who packs a wallop when he's on his game.

David Harris, linebacker: He's not 100 percent, still feeling the effects of the strained quadriceps he brought home from London. Harris is vital to the defense, especially against a power-running offense like the Redskins. No revelation here: Washington will try to pound the rock. They have the second-highest rush percentage (44) in the league, according to ESPN Stats & Information. Their production has dipped since Week 2, but they'll stick to it, trying to reduce the burden on quarterback Kirk Cousins.

Harris is a tone setter for the Jets. He also could be targeted in the passing game. Cousins likes to throw to change-of-pack back Chris Thompson, and we all know the Jets' linebackers aren't great in pass coverage. The Jets say Thompson reminds them of Darren Sproles, and that could be a problem. Harris and fellow inside 'backer Demario Davis could be in a heap of trouble if they're in single coverage against Thompson, who has 17 catches.

Agree with Cimini on this. The Skins are not an extremely talented team at skill position, but they are tough up front.

This will be a good test to see how tough the Jets are under Bowles.

Love the Jet RB's, but sure wish they had a change up speed guy to get outside

As I said, they are not extremely talented, but they are tough to play against, and they are playing real tough right now.

The D line should do OK with all the good players the Jets have, and a fresh rotation.

I'm concerned about the O line, and specifically the running game. Ground yards are going to be tough to come by. The Jets aren't built to put on an air show.

Like against the Fish, they have to get on top early, and make the Skins throw to win. Can't get in a come back situation.

Well, I don't agree with anything Cimini says. That guy is a complete idiot, just see other thread I created.

But I do agree with you in that the Jets are NOT a team that can come from behind. I also agree that this is a big challenge for our young, fledgling team. We'll find out a lot about the Jets this weekend possibly, just like we did against the Eagles.

We know this team is not capable of playing a shootout game. This team is not designed for a track meet. We win by relying on great defense and first and foremost our running game on offense. It's important for the Jets to get Chris Ivory going early.

Or shall I say, it's important to get the OL blocking well early. No one needs to get Chris Ivory going. Chris Ivory is ALWAYS ready to go.

Kirk Cousins averages 2 interceptions a game. So putting the outcome of the game in Kirk Cousins hand is the right bet. The Jets defense MUST stop their running game and I have faith although they did get run on by the Eagles.

They also must guard that wheel route as our defense has shown to be susceptible to that. That's constitutes the BIG play.

And of course as always, the Jets offense MUST hold on to the football.

I have no problem saying our OL might struggle with their front 7, but why exactly should I think their OL will "bully" one of the best DLs in football?:scratching-head-smi

You shouldn't. But the Redskins do have an angle for winning this game. The Jets are certainly not invulnerable. The Skins have a back that is Darren Sproles like and a back like that could burn us with the big play. They also could bully us with their DL against our OL. Our OL has played well over all this season, but have they faced a DL as formidable as theirs? Remember, Willie Colon is still out. Brian Winters got torched by a 3rd string lineman.

Who, Chris Thompson? If Chris Thompson burns the Jets, please give the skins the game

I was just commenting on how the title said the Skins wanted to bully us "on both sides of the ball" . . .

Missed call on batted ball, running clock lead to penalties for officials

20m - NFL DETROIT LIONS +3 more
Kevin Seifert, NFL Nation

The NFL has taken the rare step of reprimanding two officials who made high-profile mistakes in recent Monday Night Football games.

Side judge Rob Vernatchi has been benched for one week, while back judge Greg Wilson was moved to a lower-profile game for Week 6. The news was first reported by Pro Football Talk.

Vernatchi was responsible for ensuring accuracy of the game clock last Monday during the Pittsburgh Steelers' 24-20 victory over the San Diego Chargers. Neither he nor any member of referee Pete Morelli's crew noticed that the Qualcomm Stadium clock operator allowed 18 seconds to run off late in the fourth quarter. The Steelers took possession with 2:38 remaining in the game instead of 2:56 as they should have after a touchback.

In a statement released Thursday afternoon, an NFL spokesman said Vernatchi is sidelined this week "as a result of the failure to notice that the game clock was incorrectly started." The mistake will also affect the season evaluation of referee Pete Morelli and the rest of his crew, which is scheduled to officiate Sunday's game between the Washington Redskins and New York Jets. The clock operator at Qualcomm Stadium, an NFL employee, is also under review and could be replaced before the Chargers' next home game on Oct. 25.

Meanwhile, the league would not confirm Wilson's reassignment, citing its policy against detailing officiating crews before games. But a source with knowledge of the situation confirmed Wilson will not work with referee Tony Corrente in Sunday night's nationally televised game between the New England Patriots and Indianapolis Colts.

Instead, Wilson will work with Jeff Triplette's crew in Sunday afternoon's game between the Miami Dolphins and Tennessee Titans.

Wilson missed an illegal bat penalty Oct. 5 in the fourth quarter of the Seattle Seahawks' 13-10 victory over the Detroit Lions. Had Wilson made the call, the Lions would have retained possession at the Seahawks' 1-yard line. Instead, the Seahawks ran out the clock en route to the win.

The NFL evaluates each official on a weekly basis, but before this season it was highly unusual for it to take in-season action based on single mistakes. This summer, however, the league quietly opened the door to benching poor performers by hiring three "swing" officials and noting that crew assignments could change based on "performance issues," among others reasons.

Jim Quirk, executive director of the NFL Referees Association, said at the time that he was certain that "nobody will be relieved of their duties because of a performance evaluation in the season." But with scrutiny of officiating at an all-time high, the league has taken more dramatic action than anyone expected.

Quirk declined comment Thursday, citing the NFLRA's policy against speaking publicly on personnel matters.

Well, if that ref bit is topical, then how about #24 for ATL? Looked like Terrell davis last night. I thought Chan was a spread guy? Kyle Shanahan called some great stretch plays; all downhill. can we do that? I know that's Zone Blocking, tia

WE don't have the shifty, speedy running back that D. Freeman is..... We should have signed Spiller instead of Powell...

Geez, am I the only one who likes Powell? Good but not great at everything. Consistent runner, good receiver, and excellent in pass protection.

Understand what your saying about Spiller, I would rather have signed Spiller then Stacy. Wonder if Gailey had some input there?
