Honestly there is too small of a sample size for us to judge, both good and bad. The challenges do suck but I think one of them he threw the flag bc he was going to call a time out anyway, so he said what the heck.

I have been looking forward to this game since the beginning of the season...Return of Sheldon.

IMO, Harris is the leader of our D, but Sheldon is the catalyst. He's the guy every linemen is thinking "oh crap, what's he doing on this snap".

Jets have scored in last 2 mins of 1st half in all 4 gms. Last time they did that? 1967. Seven points: Jets-'Skins: http://bit.ly/1kaeMm7

Green & White Power Drill, Believing in FitzMagic & Opportunity Knocks for Punt Returners

In honor of Yogi Berra, this is déjà vu all over again.
NFC East opponent at home, AFC East rival on the road the following week ... hmmm.
You can call it a trap or not a trap, but three weeks ago the 2-0 Jets lost to the 0-2 Eagles at MetLife Stadium before going international on Miami to improve to 3-1. This Sunday it's the 2-3 Washington Redskins at MetLife, with the Patriots at Gillette glittering on the horizon.
Head coach Todd Bowles has a message for any player feeling good about himself or looking ahead to New England: "We have no reason to be patting ourselves on the back. ... You can go from the penthouse to the outhouse real quick."

Here are seven more points to ponder about the Jets' return to action — in all-white unis — before a Generations Day crowd at MetLife:

1. Reverse These Trends
The Jets are running into several historical tendencies that may have nothing to do with this game yet still have to be broken if the Green & White plan to keep rolling. For one, they're 0-4 all-time vs. Washington at home. For another, against the NFC East they've dropped six of their last seven at home and 11 of 13 overall. Finally, they've lost five of their last six following their bye weeks since 2009. That's not how byes are supposed to work.

2. Continue This Drill
The Jets' two-minute drill, that is. It's been humming with a score in the last two minutes of the first half of each game: a Nick Folk FG at Indy, Ryan Fitzpatrick-to-Eric Decker TDs against Cleveland and Miami, and Fitz-to-Brandon Marshall vs. the Eagles. The last time the Jets did this in four consecutive games? 2009. The only other time they did it in the first four games of a season? Pre-Super Bowl, 1967 to be exact. In Jets games since the 1970 merger when one team scored and the other didn't in the final two minutes of the first half, the scoring team went on to win 69% of the time.

3. The Bounding Beard?
"FitzMagic" won't fool Penn & Teller but it's been pretty effective. Fitzpatrick's accuracy (60.7%) and TD drive rate (21.6%) are the Jets' best since the Year of the Favre (2008), his 231 passing yards/game would be the Jets' best since Pennington (2000), and he's getting sacked a Namathian once every other game. Also consider Fitz has the same rushing yardage as Michael Vick (52 each). Maybe he's not the Galloping Ghost but perhaps the Bounding Beard? Now about that technique ... "I've slid feet first more times this year than I probably have my whole career," he said. "It's progress."

4. Ivory vs. Washington's Wall
Chris Ivory's hot. His 104.7 is not his temperature but his rushing yards per game, tied for best in the NFL. His 5.0 yards per carry would set a franchise record. His 3.5 yards/carry after first contact would be the Jets' best over the last decade. He has the 'Skins' attention, as HC Jay Gruden said: "Every time he carries the ball, he looks like an angry runner, and physical." And Washington's front seven has the Jets', as OC Chan Gailey said: "They're not the No. 6 defense in the league just by happenstance ... this'll be our biggest challenge offensively."

5. Third-Down War
Washington fans hope to see WR DeSean Jackson and his 20 yards/catch in action for the first time since he pulled his hamstring on the second ball thrown his way in the opener. Jackson's been limited in practice this week. But Pierre Garçon (two 100-yard receiving games for the Colts vs. the Jets in the '09 and '10 playoffs) has been filling the void and somehow QB Kirk Cousins and the offense have been converting third downs (44.6% rate en route to an NFL-leading 34:18 possession time). The Jets' third-down D comes in having stopped 18 consecutive third-down tries. Something's got to give here.

6. Open Return Door
Either Jeremy Kerley and Redskins rookie Jamison Crowder could be a Sunday difference-maker returning punts. The Jets' punt cover team has allowed 23.7 yards/return, 32nd in the NFL, while the 'Skins have yielded 22.2, 31st in the league. ST coordinator Bobby April is well aware of the Jets' issue: "Right now that phase is a deficiency for us. ... We haven't been a master in space like we need to be." And while the Jets are at it, the kickoff cover team will want to keep close tabs on Rashad Ross, who leads the NFL at 32.0 yards/return.

7. Interconference Interconnectedness
On the Jets, DE Stephen Bowen played for Washington from 2011-14 and TEs coach Jimmy Johnson was a Redskins draft choice in '89. On Gruden's staff are ex-Jets coaches Bill Callahan, Matt Cavanaugh and Ben Kotwica, and ST assistant Bradford Banta was the Jets' long snapper in 2000. But the biggest connection: Bowles' seven seasons as a Washington safety. "You see the helmet and you understand how you got your start," Todd said. "That's something I will never forget." Which he then promptly forgot as he turned back to this week's game plan to stop the 'Skins.

I believe we'll be fine. Falcons should've blown the Skins out. They almost couldn't get out of their own way with the turnovers which by the way killed them Monday Night. Keep Fitz from throwing this game away with his picks (no more than 1), and this game is ours. How we start this game will say a lot. I'd be concerned if we start slow on both sides of the ball. Richardson should be on a pitch count the first couple of weeks. He should be in football shape in Oakland.

Here is what worries me the most about the Redskins....
They have the 6th overall defense in the league. They are very stingy giving up offense. The Jets have a fledgling and fragile offense. If they start getting to Fitz? He will start throwing interceptions. If that happens? The Jets are done.

This will likely be a low scoring, defensive affair. At some point, this game will be in Ryan Fitzpatrick's hands to win or lose. They may shut down Chris Ivory and put the game right, from the get go, in Ryan Fitzpatrick's hands.

However, they are missing some key personnel in their secondary. Fitz should find Marshall and Decker open for most of the day. I don't like the idea of Fitz constantly throwing to Marshall when he's double covered. Fitz did a nice job using Eric Decker in the Colts game up until he got injured. Fitz should be able to go after whoever is guarding Decker as that will constitute one on one coverage. But he's going to need to get the ball out quickly. The Redskins pass rush is no slouch. They have more sacks than we do.

The overall key for the Jets offense is to not lose the game. Do not commit any turnovers. Even one could be the difference in the game.

Richardson should be in football shape next week. He's not in Devin Smith's situation that he had no camp or mini camp. Richardson played in the pre-season. If he kept himself in top condition for the last month, two weeks should be more then enough to get him amped up for the hitting.

If he didn't keep in top shape, different story

They can try but better not work. Our strength is our O And D-line. They just cant let that happen. Especially after a bye week and being fairly healthy.

Except keeping them motivated for a cupcake game against a hapless Eagles team. Also, his challenges suck. He hasn't even been close on one so far.

Bowles is doing a very nice job thus far I agree. But you can still see where this team just decides not to show up on certain days. Just like Rex had it happen to him, you see it happen already with Bowles.

So you expected a victory against a desperate Eagles team without our top RB, #2 and #3 receivers, and (arguably) top DL?

Would've liked a W (and could've pulled it out) but to say "he didn't motivate them enough" might be a little harsh . . .

IDK OCCH.. pretty tough sell saying coach bowles had his team ready to play football in the 1st half against philly.. ultimately if a team comes out flat that's on the head coach..

But isn't there a distinction between "flat" and undermanned?

We tried doing things on offense that worked when we were fully staffed. Powell didn't get the yards Ivory got, and kerley/ Enunwa didn't help open the field the way Decker/Owusu did. And I highly doubt it would have occurred to ANY coach to pull Marshall to the side during the week to remind him to keep the risky laterals to a minimum.

I guess the better argument would be that the defense didn't come ready to play. But that was still the first time we faced a shifty back like that in a new system. I'd say we adjusted well and held them scoreless the rest of the game.

We all saw GAMES where Rex didn't have the team prepared to play. That Philly game was a bad start, but not any different than any other team has to endure (and we almost pulled it out in the end.)

My only point is if we lose this week it will be a COMPLETELY different animal than the Philly game, and I'll give this team the benefit of the doubt until it gives me reason not to . . .

I'm actually torn between the points yourself, and 13 are making. I kind of agree with both of you.

Yes. The Jets were undermanned. Had several Key players out. Of course that is going to effect their performance on the field.

With that said, they were still a better team then the Eagles. They proved that with their second half performance.

After re-watching the game, if Winters makes any kind of block on a no name DT, and the ball isn't tipped into an interception, this game probably goes into overtime.

Marshall had a full step on the DB 15 yards down the center of the field. Nobody between him and the end zone. Stuff happens.

Real point is, the Jets weren't prepared for the game. Like with the coming Skins game, the Eagles should have been an easy victim on the way to a very important divisional game with the Fish. They fell behind in the first half by 24 points.

No excuse for that. This is not a team that is built to come back from a 3+ TD deficit. They almost pulled it off, but didn't.

That's on Bowles. They weren't prepared.

One of the marks of a badly coached team is losing games that you should win. I wrote the Birds game off as a learning experience for a rookie HC.

We'll find out Sunday how much he learned. The Skins are a tough team that is ravaged with injuries. If the Jets aren't prepared, they'll get their butts kicked.

if they are, they will take a lead early, and methodically build on it all afternoon.

We'll see who they are, and Bowles is Sunday

Prior to the final injury reports, I would have been inclined to agree with you. I was worried about this game.

Now? Goodness, the Skins OL is wrecked. Williams, Richardson, and Mo, should take turns beating up on the Skins LT. The CB's are crap. Marshall and Decker should have career days.

The Skins will still be tough against the run. If I'm Gailey, I come out throwing the ball. IDK who is going to stop Marshall and Decker. Get 10 points up, then give the ball to Ivory/Powell.

Cousins is very prone to turnovers when he is under pressure. The Jets DL should be collapsing the LT spot. Cousins throwing the ball at Revis, Cro, and Skrine, under pressure won't go well.

That's great news on Jackson.
*sigh* this has gone from a game that looked liked a good test, to a game that would be devastating to lose, to an absolutely inexcusable loss..

& yes i get the fact the backups are pros too & i'm sure they're not crazy about hearing about how badly the jets are going to embarrass them..

can't wait to get this one over with & get to 4-1..

We're all fans with minimal/no insight into what truly transpired behind each snap, so I have no trouble saying my viewpoint may be completely off. All I know is I saw MANY more reasons to lose that Philly game than I do with the upcoming Redskin one.

I personally do not feel that Philly game gave us any insight into any coaching deficiencies Bowles may or may not have, but that tune could QUICKLY change if tomorrow doesn't play out considerably better . . .

Theres no sure win with this team. Washington could very well come out firing and beat us if our offense isn't up to the task or if the team gets off to a slow start like in Philly.

I have complete confidence in the defense doing what they do best and shutting teams out however if the offense doesn't respond with scoring drives of their own and leave the opponent with a chance to win then eventually it's going to bite us in the butt

Good teams weather the storm and then take their shots for the win. We haven't faced a good team yet but

You know, I think your right, I think this team/coach/philosophy is so new that tight bonded teamwork is not there yet.
Given how much change there has been, this team still has to develop it's cohesiveness.
Give this team a little room to find itself, I still think it can do 10 wins which I didn't think it could do before the season.
This is the best adult coach I've seen here in a long time.

Players like Revis are not the key, this coach and GM is the key.
