Awful rookie season so far. I don't want to hear that Fitz doesn't have the arm for him. He has horrible route running and fumbles. He needs to learn. He also can't take criticism.

When the Jets drafted him they said explicitly that they expected him to be able to be a vertical threat off the bat, who might need time to learn how to run other route trees. Cut the kid some slack! I haven't seen them use him much yet as a vertical threat, have you?

He has been a major disappointment so far this season -- but that tweet came right after the Ohio State game on Saturday afternoon -- I don't think he was referring to Thursday Night's game.

The one thing I liked about him was how upset he was after the play. The rain made a lot of plays unreliable. I hope he responds better next game to make up for that bad play.

you called it early with the broken ribs, this would probably be a "lost season" for smith because of valuable time/reps missed..

Not sure he has the mental toughness to play in this league....has the physical tools but his technique on various bad plays has been atrocious....such as being out of position against a defender numerous times when the ball is in play...not fighting for the ball....fumbling his first kickoff opportunity.

Maybe Bowles is good at motivating? He said some hurtful things about Smith and the rookies and he came through this week.

There was a receiver for the Houston Oilers named Ernest Givens back in the 90's who was extremely gifted. Though his struggles were very early in his career reminiscent of Devin Smith, once Givens started going, he was a lethal threat at Warren Moon's disposal in the run and gun.

Some receivers take time to come along, some just can never get it ala Stephen Hill. Coaching obviously has alot to do with it but it's also up to the player to put it all together. Devin is in the latter part of that process.

I'm reserving my judgment in calling him a bust. Look at Calvin Pryor. He was a bust until this year where he turned it around. Give this kid a break, he missed a lot of time early in camp and in the season which is critical to a young Guy's development.

I was thrilled to see Smith catch a couple yesterday, and what was nicer was the reaction of his teammates who seemed to be very happy for the kid after the TD. Dan is correct in that it takes some WRs a while to get used to pro game, hopefully this is just the beginning of a very nice career. If so, we have a very good trio of complimentary WRs.
