Giants cut Damontre Moore (put in the claim!)

He was cut over some BS argument with Cullen Jenkins over music, total nonsense, but cutting him seems like an over-reaction to a losing season. Moore is only 23 years old and I always felt he was a better fit at 3-4 OLB (edge rusher) than 4-3 DE. He's 6-3/250, thats 3-4 OLB size in the NFL, not DE, so IMO he was not a good fit for the Giants, but he was a terrific edge rusher at Texas A&M and I would definitely put in a claim for the Jets, especially after we lost Catapano.

Odell Beckham gave out blue @beatsbydre headphones to everyone in locker room. Jenkins took multiple pairs. #giants

If this is true, why did Moore get cut I wonder?

Moore is a pretty good player, I'd entertain the idea of signing him. He's probably be happy, won't have to go through the hassle of a mid season move.

Jets have early shot at him, need a pass rusher, under contract for 843,000 next year. If he doesn't work out, cut him.

id stay away. You never see young players with good potential get cut. Especially from a team with zero pass rush. Smells like trouble for Bowles.

Guy was cut before his rookie deal ran out . Extremely rare, for his draft position

Honestly, I'd be (pleasantly) surprised if someone ahead of us doesn't claim him too, but we should still put in a claim.

I'm leaning that way. Question is, who do you cut to make room?

If I said I knew a lot about Moore I'd be lying. What I'm reading is that he a pretty talented player, that seems to get in a lot of locker room poop.

This year he would just be a pin your ears back and get the passer kind of guy. He's making a switch to LB'er, he's not going to learn those skills in 4 weeks.

Is he a good enough pass rusher to warrant cutting a now rooster ed player? Jets need to decide by tomorrow if they just want to claim him.

Same guy we promoted from the PS when we IR'd Catapano, Ronald Martin.

We know he'll clear waivers because he's already done so multiple times, so we can put him back on the PS.

Exactly, for now we can use him as a situational pass rusher, and if he performs well in that role, in the off season work with him on a full transition to 3-4 OLB, where IMO he was always a better fit. I liked him a lot in college and wanted the Jets to draft him. Too me he was a college DE who lacked the size to play DE in the pros, but a good fit at 3-4 OLB.

All I know is, he was an ELITE pass rusher at Texas A&M and he's still only 23 years old. I watched just about every one of his college games his last year at A&M, thats when Johnny Football won the Heisman and they were on TV every weekend, and I don't think I missed even one of their games. Johnny Football and Mike Evans received most of the attention from the draftniks, as did their O-linemen, but Moore was their best player on defense, he terrorized QB's off the edge, so I would definitely put in a claim here, especially after we lost Catapano.

To be clear, I don't expect to win that claim, I'll be shocked if we do, but it doesn't cost us anything to try.

You've talked me into it. Hold on while I go make the claim,,,,,,,Thanks Woody

:) I'd make the claim. Is the claim based on where the Jets are ranked now? Or where they picked in the draft ? If it's draft they win claim. If it's current, not so sure

Unfortunately its based on the current standings now.

I think its the first four games of the regular season where they still apply the previous years standings or last years draft order if you will, but I'm pretty sure its week five when the current standings start to apply.

Thats why I don't think we're gonna win the claim, but it doesn't hurt to try.

Agree

Thought I read exactly what you just posted, couldn't remember where though, that's why I qualified.

I claim him if he's there

Agree

He's cheap, has another year on his contract. Maybe this will open his eyes, and maybe not. If not he'll be gone next year with little damage

We released a young LB 12 seconds after he punched the deadbeat who was stiffing him on a legitimate debt

And some think we are jumping in to pick up a young DE who was cut for getting into a physical confrontation over idiotic Dr Dre headphones

From ESPN.com:

http://espn.go.com/nfl/story/_/id/14344975/new-york-giants-waive-damontre-moore

Sources say the final straw was a recent fight between Moore and defensive linemate Cullen Jenkins. One source confirmed an NFL Network report that the two fought over the distribution of free Beats headphones in the locker room. But that source and others also said Moore had been fined several times by the team this year for rules violations and behavior problems and that the decision to waive him was based on the accumulation of issues, not just one fight.

Coaches and administrators have spoken to Moore on several occasions, this year and in years past, about his behavior in practice. Sources say Moore routinely clowned around on the practice field in front of everyone from teammates to Giants owner John Mara and responded poorly to efforts by teammates and coaches to get him to take practice more seriously. Moore was also penalized several times this year during games for roughing the passer, and his lack of on-field discipline earned him a full-game benching in a Week 7 over the Dallas Cowboys

Isn't this the guy that got 12 reps on the bench at the Combine?? He has 3 sacks in 3 years and has character issues. If he had tons of talent the Giants wouldn't have released him. He is the defensive version of Johnny Manziel. He dominated kids in college, but is too weak and not talented enough to dominate men.
