& let the chips fall where they may..

I agree. Just hit 11-5 and I really think someone is going to fall. Raiders hate KC and would love to knock them off and might actually be slightly better especially offensively. Broncos are fighting just to make playoffs at this point and still have Steelers, Bengals. And the Bengals have a backup QB that could derail their team although they play a couple awful teams. And either the Broncos or Bengals will beat each other so they will win their division. We would get in at 11-5 if the Steelers, KC and Broncos were at 11-5. So basically if the Steelers beat Broncos which should happen then we are rooting for Bengals to beat Broncos in Denver and the Bengals are fighting for a home playoff game and a bye especially for Dalton to return. We need the Broncos to lose two. It looks bleak for us, but we have a bunch of scenarios that could play out in our favor, but only if we get to 11-5.

I know that, but they are the ones that came out slow and under performed vs some very average opponents. We haven't made it to 11-5 and I'm not sure if they will. If they get there and don't make the playoffs then I will still be satisfied and proud of the direction. If they finish 9-7 then they just had an average season with some highs and lows. I just like having meaningful football again.
yeah, still plenty of work to get to 11-5..

LOLz i'm not sure if the football gods can be cruel enough to watch the jets run off 6 straight, get 11 wins & not make the playoffs..

it would be a brutal lesson about giving away winnable games but if leasson learned, so be it..

I see us getting to 10-6 with a real shot at 11-5..

we'll see..

& i'm relieved (very) coach bowles didn't let the "1-4" stretch spiral completely out of control.. i was becoming more than a bit concerned about how his team was absolutely not responding to his leadership.. whatever the disconnect was seems have been addressed & the jets look like a dangerous football team 10 days before Christmas..

we're still the 6th seed (regardless of how precarious that slot may be) & in the midst of our most complete run of the season with 3 games left..

keep em "fast & loose" coach bowles & again, let the chips fall where they my..

IMPORTANT NOTE:

If Pittsburgh and the Jets both win this week, Pittsburgh leaps us in the WC Standings, so they take control of the 6 Seed and we fall to their current position (7), on the outside looking in, which is to say, no longer in control of our own destiny.

Reason being, Dallas is an NFC team so we cannot improve our conference record this week, while the Steelers can catch us at 6-4 in the conference with a win over Denver, which is the first tiebreaker because we did not play Pittsburgh H2H, so it would fall to the next tiebreaker that applies to Pittsburgh and the Jets, which bypasses common opponents (must be four or more CO's, so it doesn't apply) and goes to strength of schedule, and Pittsburgh had the tougher schedule.

So its not enough to root for a Jets win this week, we really need a Pittsburgh (or KC) loss as well.

Jets need to win out no matter what the end result may mean. That will be a great way to end the season off and get next season going. Be a real shame to go 10-6 or 11-5 and no make it. Especially for players like B. Marshall and Fitz that's been in the league so long and haven't made the playoffs yet. Hopefully that's not what happens but its looking like it will happen just like that.

All we can do is hope the Jets handle their business and both, if not one of the other two teams slip up a game or two really. Chiefs seem like a lock for 11-5 with their schedule. Steelers can win out with that alien offense but they play the Broncos this week, so MAYBE??? Anyway, Jets put themselves in this position by losing to the Texans, Bills and Eagles. Which were just unexplainable and embarrassing.

They have to fight their way out of that. Can they do it, hopefully so. It will be a shame to not do it with 10 or even worse 11 wins. If they don't make it, they have no one to blame but themselves. IMO, the NFL needs to change the playoffs rules to the 6 best records get in but I doubt they ever will. The AFC South and NFC East are embarrassments and shouldn't have a chance to be in the playoffs but it is what it is.

So assuming we beat the 11-2 Patriots, if the Bills are 7-8 and we also beat them, is there ANY way we can bypass pitt on the strength of schedule tie breaker? have to think playing New England and their 11-2 record would add to our strength of schedule, and pitt beating Balt (4-9) and cle (2-12) hypothetically would help us? this scenario assumes the jets and pitt both win out

I don't think so. There are just too many scenarios that will change in the next two weeks since Bengals and Broncos are now in the running for 11-5. As of right now the Jets have never shown that they can win 6 in a row so until they get to 10-5 there really is no reason to stress about tie breakers.

We have four common opponents and the Steelers would get in because we lost to Raiders. (Pats, Browns, Colts, and Raiders). KC has four common opponents as well, but they beat us on conference record. We need help if we take care of business.

the Jets have never shown that they can win 6 in a row .

Well in 1986 ( I know ancient history to some ) the NY Jets won 9 in a row.... My son was born the day after the last win of the streak Nov 16 1986 ,( born the 17 th) vs the Colts and yes I was there much to my wife's despair...and still hear it to this day....

Yes it was followed by 5 straight loses but " we " did have a nice winning streak

Jets just need to win. There is a chance Bengals go 0-3 with their backup QB

And they weren't just winning during that streak, they were destroying teams.

IMO that team would have won the SB if not for an avalanche of injuries that started to mount towards the tail end of that nine game winning streak and just spiraled out of control. By the time that streak had ended, the team was absolutely devastated with injuries, as bad or worse than I have ever seen it, guys were just dropping like flies, key guys too. Thats how we went from winning nine in a row, including the Denver Broncos who went to the SB that year, and we didn't just beat them, we mauled them, if I recall we sacked Elway seven times and knocked him out of the game, but thats how we went from winning nine in a row to losing the last five.

They play SF and Baltimore so they are not going 0-3 even if they played with Geno Smith.

SF has played better with Gabbert and they have some decent home performances. Baltimore has one of the best head coaches , and that's a division game

Which is why I'm holding out hope for them against Pitt/KC too -- not that they'll beat ALL those teams, but I wouldn't be surprised if they beat one (or two) . . .

Both of those teams are devoid of any real talent. The Broncos, Steelers and KC are all that could slip up IMO.

Looking at the NFL standings, the Jets are the only team with a winning record that is a surprise. Some people will say the Vikings as well, but there were plenty who thought they would be good going into this season
