The Ultimate Question on Ryan Fitzpatrick

I predicted here 11-5 if Fitzpatrick started the season and 6-10 if some other guy started

And I did so before IK singlehandedly saved our season

You can look it up.....never mind....I wasn't here at JFU until much later[emoji1] [emoji4] [emoji4]

ham, as usual a well thought out post. I don't always agree with you but you always state a valid reason for your statement. this is why i was glad
when i saw you on this site. i missed you when you left JI for this reason. i do happen to agree with you most of the time esp in this case.

I have to refer to what the HC said this week about his Fitz and BM. They have matured and found a HOME! That in essences makes all the difference in the world. He likes playing here and [if] we got into the playoffs who knows.... I do not think this team has played a complete game this year in all three phases of the game and if last week is an indication of what we can do then who knows...

I say if he continues to think ball security 1st, not try to play outside himself - which he admitted to doing during the slide - and the rest of the team plays like believe we are capable of we can... This is something I haven't said in a long long time. One other comment, this team is headed in the right direction, no none sense, physical and smart. Those are the criteria I outlines in preseason....

As long as he isn't regularly having to play catch up in games, he's a pretty good QB.
He isn't going to make a bad team better but he will be an asset for a good team.

That being said, he is 33 and we still need to find our long term solution at QB. I want to see another QB drafted this year in case Petty is fools gold.
I agree, he's a good QB so long as you are not asking him to carry a team by himself, that he is not, but if the other pieces are in place and holding up their end, he's a guy you can win with consistently and even take it the distance.

But I also agree that at his age he is not in it for the long haul, so while I'm fine with going into 2016 with Fitz as the incumbent starter, you should also be preparing for the future at the same time. Petty was a good start, but I would absolutely bring in another young QB to compete with Petty, and there's a number of them we can probably draft after the first round this year to groom and compete.

Can Fitz win us a championship? The simple answer to that is yes. Will he win us one? My answer would be perhaps, but some other things need to happen:

First, we have to stay healthy. We have depth in certain areas but we know there are players we can't afford to lose, particularly our offensive line. Since we don't incorporate a TE in our passing game Marshall and Decker must survive the year. We won't get too far running screens most of the game. Right now, that's our third receiver.

Next, one of our other phases have to gain field position via turnovers or 3 and outs. Our defense is sound in that department. However I still feel our defense and/or special teams should help score points. Maybe we can draft or trade for a return specialists. I don't care for Cro or Decker handling returns period.

Championship teams win either shootouts or tight games and can overcome mistakes. I don't feel like we're there yet. We're fine playing in front or a tight game. Down 14+ points gives us problems too large to overcome. We rarely strike quick and I find that to be necessary.

An interesting point, does Fitz make players around him better, or does the players around Fitz make him better? I kinda think it's the latter. Yes we are aware of his background, how smart he is. And we can see how effective he can be with talent surrounding him. Mostly everyone says as long as he cuts down on his turnovers, and if the defense plays well, he has a shot.

What concerns me is the ability to come from behind. Would he have won the Giant game if they took the 3 instead of going for the points on that 4th down turning point? The Jets would've had to go for the fourth down on the ensuing drive instead kicking the FG. I just hope that Fitz doesn't try to do too much. We should be fine.

I don't think we'd get too deep into the playoffs this year. Looking at the top 3 seeds, would we be able to win in Denver, or Cincinnati? NE? Perhaps, except we'd have to beat the refs too. I'd like our chances next year.

I am sorry but people are the same mistake with Fitz that has already been made once before. Our offense us where it is because of Marshall decker Gailey and the offensive system which is effective and a great fit for our oline. Plus an epicly easy schedule.Fitz is not making plays he is taking what is there, while seriously limiting us in others. People thinking he will win playoff games or repeat this next year are flat delusional.

poor johnny one note

nearly 200 posts virtually every one bashing Ryan Fitzpatrick and promoting the other guy

Proven wrong massively by the facts and play on the field by the AFC offensive player of the past week

More or less a laughing stock here and even at another well known forum

Does this stop johnny?

Does he just admit his error and eat crow?

nope

he blathers and blubbers on playing that same pathetic note on his blaring trumpet over and over and over again

Well, it certainly looks like he is here to stay if they get to the playoffs; and if they get to the playoffs anything can happen. Do I think they can win if they get to the playoffs? Sure they can. This is a good mix of veterans and 2-5 yr players. Is this a great team; no. Is this a team that could go on a roll and do it; yes. Put a trophy in our case and you have earned a free ride for next year.

Think he's already got the ride for next year. When a tight lipped coach like Bowels starts saying he wants Fitz back next year, and he and Macc haven't discussed it yet, but they will, think you can pretty well figure Fitz will be back next year.

How he does in the next 3 games, and in the playoffs, should they make it, will determine how much he will be paid.

I am not wrong though, and could care less what people think. I recognized that Rex was a sham blowhard early too and took the same derisive posts until people saw the light.

WOW, that convinced me. Quick text Bowles and Macc. Let them know how smart you are, and how dumb they are before they give Fitz that extension. Because like it or not that's going to happen.

I'm sure once they find out you didn't like Rex they will capitulate to your demands

We all should be happy with how Fitz has played. Yes, he has the best weapons this offense has had in awhile, but he has also played very well. I believe if the rest of the team plays well, he will do his part, and not screw opportunities up

Come on Johnny. Fitz has exceeded everyone's expectations. His smarts alone have proven valuable to us. He deserves N extension. As mentioned in another forum, Fitz is the perfect veteran. He is teaching Petty and that tutoring alone is worth the price
