Can Fitz win us a championship? The simple answer to that is yes. Will he win us one? My answer would be perhaps, but some other things need to happen:
First, we have to stay healthy. We have depth in certain areas but we know there are players we can't afford to lose, particularly our offensive line. Since we don't incorporate a TE in our passing game Marshall and Decker must survive the year. We won't get too far running screens most of the game. Right now, that's our third receiver.
Next, one of our other phases have to gain field position via turnovers or 3 and outs. Our defense is sound in that department. However I still feel our defense and/or special teams should help score points. Maybe we can draft or trade for a return specialists. I don't care for Cro or Decker handling returns period.
Championship teams win either shootouts or tight games and can overcome mistakes. I don't feel like we're there yet. We're fine playing in front or a tight game. Down 14+ points gives us problems too large to overcome. We rarely strike quick and I find that to be necessary.
An interesting point, does Fitz make players around him better, or does the players around Fitz make him better? I kinda think it's the latter. Yes we are aware of his background, how smart he is. And we can see how effective he can be with talent surrounding him. Mostly everyone says as long as he cuts down on his turnovers, and if the defense plays well, he has a shot.
What concerns me is the ability to come from behind. Would he have won the Giant game if they took the 3 instead of going for the points on that 4th down turning point? The Jets would've had to go for the fourth down on the ensuing drive instead kicking the FG. I just hope that Fitz doesn't try to do too much. We should be fine.
I don't think we'd get too deep into the playoffs this year. Looking at the top 3 seeds, would we be able to win in Denver, or Cincinnati? NE? Perhaps, except we'd have to beat the refs too. I'd like our chances next year.
