George Paton: Jets Reach Out to GM Candidate

Ian Rapoport has the first candidate for the Jets general manager search.

Paton has a long working relationship with Vikings general manager Rick Spielman. He has been with the Vikings front office since 2007 and was promoted to his current position with the organization in January 2012. Prior to that, he had stints in the Dolphins and Bears organizations.

Paton is the first candidate. He has been a relatively hot name in league circles over the past few years. The Dolphins, Panthers, and Browns have all expressed varying degrees of interest in Paton for vacant general manager jobs.

There are rumblings Charley Casserly, who will be involved in the search for John Idzik's replacement, is high on Paton so he might be a name to watch during this process.

It's probably true but don't fret, I have a feeling the GM will have more power this time around. Geno will not be the man heading into next year. He'll have to earn it (in a legit competition) and if he does then so be it.

Let's bring in legit competition at each position and not the fake competition that Idzik held.

GeNO did what he could to improve today by missing another team meeting this morning

Jets QB Geno Smith skips team meeting on Monday

Just a day removed from throwing a perfect game and leading his team to a season-finale win over Miami, Jets quarterback Geno Smith skipped a team meeting just hours after the team parted ways with general manager John Idzik and coach Rex Ryan on Monday, reports Jason Cole of Bleacher Report. The reasoning for his absence was not made public.

Smith completed 20 of 25 passes for 358 yards and three touchdowns in a 37-24 victory over Miami, sending Ryan out as a winner. Earlier in the week, he indicated that a coaching change "could be good for us all," and that he sees himself as the starting quarterback for the Jets for a "long time." Smith, the 39th overall pick in the 2013 NFL Draft, finished the season with 13 touchdown pases and 13 interceptions and 2,502 passing yards.

Dear New GM

First move...cut this stupid piece of garbage
