Schlereth's Take on Decker

We all remember earlier in the year when Schlereth went on ESPN Radio and pretty much bashed Decker saying that he is a product of Peyton. Below is a quote of what he said. With the season almost over and having seen him on the field for the Jets, what is your assessment of Decker?

"It's not that he's a bad player, he's not a bad player, he's just a product of that offense," Schlereth said. "What did he have, like 87-90 catches something like that last year? You'll see him in the 40 range. Forty-50 range."

Decker signed a five-year, $36.25 million deal with the Jets in the off-season. He was widely considered one of, if not the best receiver on the free agent market and has been brought into help what was previously one of the worst receiving groups in the league.

"New York will go crazy watching him be covered one-on-one and incomplete passes, throwing his arms up, begging for flags," Schlereth said. "I'm telling you New York, get ready, begging for flags like, 'I was interfered with. That's the only reason I couldn't catch that ball' every play and then tripping over his own feet. Going for a big play and all of a sudden the turf monster gets him. Bam. Sniper. Down. It will drive you crazy. It will absolutely drive you crazy."

I thought Decker is great this season. Our offensive system is broken but he has been consistently able to get open a make a few plays here and there. There isn't much to talk about on offense for the Jets this year but to me Decker has been the lone bright spot. Once we get that deep threat, he'll open up plays underneath for Decker and his play will improve even more. Although Harvin is super quick and dynamic, I don't see him as a deep threat.

Hard to grade Decker.

Playing with the worst QB in the league, and I believe he's had a hamstring injury most of the season.

All in all I think the Jets sightly over paid him as a #1 WR, he is a good complementary receiver. If the Jets find a #1 WR in off season (need a new GM for that) And a QB who can actually play football, he should be a decent WR

do you think we'll keep Harvin and his $10 mill salary?

Honestly he is a more chrebet/welker type but our coaches are to dumb to realize this and kerley is nothing more than a number 4 wr. I am not even sold on harvin being a number 1 I honestly think we need two legit wr's at least but i would find them after the QB.

Again this comes down to who the GM is.

They are trying to actually make a WR out of Harvin, something he was unable to do in Seattle. The first few games it looked like it was going to work, last game not so much.

If he can play the outside WR well, he might be worth it. If not $10,500,000 is way to much to pay a gadget player

Depends on who is available and when.. The Lions took Megatron 2 years(2007) before they took Stafford and as good as Calvin was they still went 0-16 in 2008..You can't do the thing if you don't have the bling=QB..

yeah i see him as gadget or slot basically harvin and decker are the same. Harvin is faster but decker has better hands and runs routes better but neither should be a 1 or 2 wr.

Decker is a SOLID #2...he will get open, is reliable and plays hurt...his drops this year seem magnified because of the poor OFFENSIVE (pun intended) display the Jets have provided

Decker is good when he only has one guy covering him. Anything else he is pretty average. We needed a top flight guy like Evans or Benjamin or this year like Cooper. None of those guys will matter without a QB.

If we do not get a better OL that is able to protect the QB and give him time to throw, no combo of WR & QB will make a huge difference. It all begins up front. No QB can pass when he is running for his life or is on his back!

That's it right there.. if we don't revamp our o-line, it wont matter who we have at the skill postions, especially QB
