I'm out at the poconos with a bunch of my friends and we are debating about the NFL and whether or not the sport as we know it now will be around in the next 100 years.

A friend of mine is in the opinion that it might not survive. There will be a sport called the NFL but it may not be the game we recognize today. People are getting bigger and stronger due to the science available to us today and eventually the high impact collisions will lead to a death which will change everything.

What are your thoughts?

Players are getting bigger on both sides of the ball are they not?? No one is forced to play football or race cars around a oval at speeds that can kill.. Hell if it was up to me I would bring back Gladiators it would be a great way to clear out the prison population..:)

No.. I think the money involved will eventually become so big that the games will be fixed to ensure top ratings. It will dissolve into a pro wrestling sort of thing with "good" teams and "evil" teams and the outcome will be scripted. Once that is uncovered, people will lose interest.

We'll have TV shows where poor people compete in life and death competitions, and the wealthy will wager on the outcome, like The Running Man.

As long as parents allow their kids to play pop warner and other little league football leagues through college, there will always be football. As far as the league becoming a fixed pro wrestling kind of thing, I don't believe that at all. Wrestling has its place and so does football.

Junior Seau's family has rejected the NFL's $4million settlement. The $4million is part of the league's general deal reached with former players who are later determined to have suffered from chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE). They say that they do not want additional money but instead want the NFL to acknowledge that they are partly responsible for CTE in former players. They are going to be on 60 minutes this week discussing Seau and what he went through with CTE. Over the years, his personality changed and he was having constant headaches.

Here's an excerpt from the article that goes into more detail. Anyways, it's things like this that the public will eventually turn on the NFL and make them change their physicality. The NFL better take this problem more serious....

The Seaus told "60 Minutes Sports" they are pursuing their own lawsuit because the NFL fails to acknowledge any liability or responsibility for CTE in its offered settlement with an estimated 21,000 ex-players. It's not, the Seaus say, about acquiring additional money. This, they believe, is what Junior would have wanted.

Nice article. http://sports.yahoo.com/news/on--60-minutes-sports---junior-seau-s-family-explains-why-they-re-still-fighting-nfl-222142045.html

it sucks this happened but he choose to play the game. I bet the family didn't care what he was doing when they were spending his money. I agree with elias though society is becoming so wussufiied because of things like this that eventually the public will turn and most of that is because society don't raise men no more they want metersexuals.

I knew in the 50's getting hit in the head can scramble your brains and smoking wasn't good for your health.. My thoughts on head injuries in most cases it's the player causing their own injuries by helmet to helmet hits.. Just because you have a gun doesn't make it dangerous unless you misuse it just like your helmet..

LOL

The real question is, will humans still be on the planet in 100 years? The way it's heading, I doubt it

If the Chinese take a liking to football, then football will be around in 100 years. If they don't, then we'll all be playing ping pong.

LMAO. National sport, ping pong. Million dollars in advertising money. I see it now!

On a side note, I corrected the typo in the title and added an "s" in "year". Holy ****! that thing bothered me so much. I had it up there like that for two days.
