The Jets have released veteran T Breno Giacomini.

Giacomini started 32 games for the Jets at RT in 2014-15. He was limited to five games last season due to a back ailment.

A fifth-round pick of the Green Bay Packers in the 2008 NFL Draft, the Louisville product appeared in two games for the Packers and spent some time on the Green Bay practice squad before signing with the Seattle Seahawks on Sep. 29, 2010. He also was a member of the practice squad in Seattle before breaking through as a starter in 2011 and he went on to make 40 regular-season starts. Giacomini started all three postseason contests for the ‘Hawks in 2012 including the team’s 43-8 Super Bowl XLVIII triumph over the Denver Broncos.

After signing with the Jets on March 13, 2014, Giacomini helped block for the NFL’s third-best rushing offense while starting all 16 games for the first time in his career. Then in 2015, Giacomini was part of an offense that established a new franchise mark for total yards (5,896).

The 6’7”, 318-pound Giacomini was on the team’s reserve/PUP list for the first seven games of the regular season with a back injury. He then made five starts but re-injured his back in a Week 13 contest against the Colts.

We only lose a million if we cut him.... If the Jets make all the cuts they should they'll have over 45 Mill in cap space and can afford to cut him...
nice!! I thought his dead cap hit was like 3 million in '17..

Actually we would lose 5 Million since his entire 2017 salary is guaranteed...
1 Million of his 4 Million is guaranteed in 2018 making him a logical cap casualty next off season...

Unfortunately the only way to minimize his dead loss for those two years would trade him... The new team would accept his guaranteed $4 Million base salary would leave us only with $2 Million that can be split over two years... But because of his injury status he is unlikely to be moved...

I was looking at it this way... If we are 40 Million under the cap after cutting the guys we should.... When we cut Forte... We would then be $39 million under the cap.. So yes the cap hit is 6million but if we have plenty of room cleared as we should we could absorb releasing him without effecting how much room we have cap wise.. But yes 6 million cap hit for nothing is a lot compared to $5 million for him..
