they had to shake the tree and see if there was any viable options to build around... now that they are certain that there is no hope the rebuilding begins...

and buy the way this destruction and " rebuild " (how I hate this term for a season or how many ever )

Couldn't agree more.

It was tough after a 10-6 2015 to tear it down. Some fans now are upset about the team rebuilding, so those same fans would be apoplectic if the team did an overhaul after winning 10 games.

No rebuild is guaranteed to work.

But I CAN guarantee that keeping the veterans and trying a patchwork fix via free agency would not have made the Jets a title contender.

Indeed and agreed. True test of all of this is will they start this season with a young QB and I mean a 21 to 24 year old they can potentially build around? That will be the true test and final straw to me of them starting from scratch and truly rebuilding. All this is great, a step in the right direction and signs of true rebuilding but what is all worth if they bring in some vet wash out to play QB?

No Glennon or T. Taylor or Cutler or Romo or Geno and especially not that garbage ass Fitzgarbage. Time to go with Hack or a drafted QB or Petty at worst. Let the young QB grow with his offensive oline and weapons and let's see what he has and can he take command of the team. Doesn't matter what this years record will be, obviously with the moves their making. Doesn't matter next year or the year after record. True and successful rebuilding takes time and patience.

Well the Jets won 5 games with all these guys so how much worse can it be with younger or different players. The chemistry was way off this season so getting rid of those guys and the lack of leadership that they provided is a good thing.

I can't say. It depends on several factors, including whether the team lands a franchise QB, how they draft, etc.

To me, if the team shows progress, that is what I want to see. If there's no progress, then no, I won't be happy to see it.

What's the alternative? More competitive rebuilds?

We've tried that numerous times under Tannenbaum and now once with Maccagnan. It hasn't worked. It's time to take a few steps back in order to take some big steps forward in a few years.

Sure we can spend millions in FA and probably sniff the playoff race. But this team should have one obvious plan for the near future: see what Petty and Hack have this year, and if there's nothing there then you get a top pick next year and take Sam Darnold from USC or Josh Rosen from UCLA. Both better prospects than any QB in this year's draft.
