marshall to sign with the giants. good landing spot for him with beckham and sheppard already there.

Giants signed WR Brandon Marshall, formerly of the Jets, to a two-year, $12 million contract.

Marshall takes a bit of a pay cut in annual average to stay home in East Rutherford and join a contender. He was initially scheduled to earn $7.5 million from the Jets in 2017 before being cut last week. The Giants badly needed another proven receiver to take some heat off Odell Beckham and provide an upgrade on Victor Cruz. Marshall meets those qualifications and should be in line for a nice bounce-back season in a pass-happy offense that doesn't currently employ a strong on-paper running game or tight end. Eli Manning will have to pick up his play to make it work, however. Marshall turns 33 in two weeks but is back to fantasy WR2 status. Mar 8 - 9:34 AM

Here's Schefter's tweet. I can't say that I am not disappointed. Marshall only cares about his media career at this point so that is why he picked the NYG. Having said that, he will be a great addition to that team. Him and OBJ with Eli slinging the ball will be a dominant offense. They just need a LT and a RB and those can be had in the draft and free agency. They have a good defense already.

Agree, this is a good move for all involved. Marshall has a chance to get in playoffs, stays in NY for his career after football, doesn't have to be the man and is playing with a very good QB. Giants get a big-bodied, highly motivated possession WR. He will give Manning an excellent option beside ODB. I'm kinda happy for the guy, hope it works out.

Good move for a team trying to contend now. Despite all the talk, he would never, EVER had worked out in New England. Can you imagine Belichick allowing him to do the TV thing?

My only hesitation to him going to Giants are the inevitable slings by the media comparing how bad the Jets are to the Giants.

Great move for Brandon, sad to see him go. Instant super bowl contender now. If giants grab a starting left tackle and te, they have no holes. Dominate d and powerful o with eli.

Brandon Marshall will be catching passes from Eli Manning as a member of the New York Giants in 2017.

According to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport, the Giants and Marshall have agreed to a two-year, $12 million contract.

The Giants cleared $7.5 million in 2017 cap space by releasing Victor Cruz and Marshall will cost the Giants $6 million in cap space. They upgraded their outside wide receiver position and saved cap space in the process.

Alarm bells went off over the weekend when Marshall posted a picture to his Instagram of former Giants wide receiver Devin Thomas hoisting a Lombardi Trophy -- Thomas wore No. 15. But no one thought a signing would happen this soon and for so cheap. Marshall was set to make $7.5 million before the Jets released him.

Marshall, who turns 33-years-old before the start of the 2017 season, still has a lot to offer. Despite playing through multiple nagging injuries in 2016, a quarterback carousel with the Jets, and a lacking No. 2 wide receiver to take away defensive attention, Marshall posted 59 receptions, 788 yards, and three touchdowns -- it was his worst statistical season. These numbers still trumped what Victor Cruz totaled as the Giants' starting boundary receiver opposite Odell Beckham Jr.

When fully healthy in 2015, with one starting quarterback, and Eric Decker lined up on the other side, Marshall racked up 1,502 receiving yards, 14 touchdowns, and 109 receptions. He was absolutely dominant despite facing double-teams and extra defensive attention on nearly every snap.

Marshall's greatest impact should come in the red zone -- the area of the field where the Giants struggled the most in 2016. Since 2010, Marshall has racked up 42 touchdowns on 62 receptions from inside the red zone.

Marshall also have six seasons with at least 100 receptions -- the most of any player in NFL history.

When he joins the Giants, he will also be joining the best situation of his career. Marshall will be playing with the best quarterback of his career in Eli Manning and he will have Beckham Jr. sucking up multiple defenders and defensive attention on every snap. We've made the case that the fastest way to fix the Giants offense is to add an elite left tackle -- like Andrew Whitworth -- but that seems more unlikely now with free agency just days away. Offensive tackles are in high demand and Whitworth could be closing in on a massive contract that is out of the Giants' price range given their salary cap situation.

Adding Marshall would allow Manning to take advantage of one-on-one coverage with a weapon that he hasn't had since Plaxico Burress was on the roster. Manning has always found more success throwing to taller targets -- as is the case with most quarterbacks -- due to his tendency to throw high and with added zip. Marshall is the perfect fit for Manning's skill set and he will see single coverage almost exclusively unless defenses want one more reminder of what Beckham can do against single coverage.

Good pick up for them... But we needed the cap space and we need to go with the youth movement

I'll root for Marshall on the Giants. He played hard while he was here and will definitely help the Giants.

Does Marshall fall into a comp pick situation for the Jets next year? or the fact he was released and not a free agent nullify that?

no he asked to be released, he was still under contract only expiring contracts and free agents sign elsewhere could you then get a compensatory selection for said loss...
