GGN -- If the 1st day of the legal tampering period was a little quiet for the Jets, today has been the complete opposite. According to a report from NJ.com, the Jets are very interested in Nick Perry, the soon to be free agent pass rusher of the Green Bay Packers.
A source familiar with the situation told NJ Advance Media the Jets have expressed "lots" of interest in Packers outside linebacker Nick Perry. They aren't the only team in the running, but it seems like a deal could get done once the league year begins March 9
Now this is an interesting one. The Jets have been looking for a good edge rusher for years and all of a sudden one becomes available. One who's coming off a year with 11 sacks, a pretty impressive number.

The problem of course, is that over the first four years of Perry's career he totalled 12.5 sacks total. This year he was playing on a one year prove it deal, and credit to him...he proved it. However I'm always sceptical about giving guys big contracts based off of one year's worth of production.

Now Perry is likely going to get around $12-$13 million a year, and in the Jets system...he could be quite productive with the likes of Williams and Wilkerson leading the way. Especially considering that the Jets now have former sack artist Kevin Greene as their outside linebackers coach.

it's a gigantic red flag green bay let a guy in his prime, coming off an 11 sack season hit the market..

buyer beware.....

Every free agent was allowed to hit the market.

it would be if the Packers aren't trying to re-sign him...

This is a guy who was a disappointment till he performed in his contract year. There's your red flag. -or- is he just coming into his own.

look, maybe the guy isn't interested in playing in green bay anymore?? maybe he was never interested in playing in green bay??

what i'm fairly certain of is if the packers loved the guy, the would have tried like hell to re-signed perry before having to potentially competing for his services with 31 other franchises..

maybe the packers did try like hell to re-sign him?? that i know nothing about..

they couldn't try to re-sign him until tomorrow start of free agency as he has language in his old contract that prevents them to negotiate until start of free agency...

so again they are interested in bringing him back, but because of that clause in his contract he will be able to test free agency or simply return back to green bay but his choice ultimately...

Although I'm not surprised by this or any of the other targets that are passing us by, it's still a little crappy to see NOBODY giving us the time of day.

Nobody wants to go to a team with such an unsettled QB situation. I get it.

Our front office deserves this. They have made no progress in 7 years.

0-16 is a very real possibility.

why are you acting like the point i was trying to make somehow went over your head??
Because your point was that a team parting ways is a red flag, you can use that logic on every free agent, that alone isn't a differing factor, plus the Packers did resign him.

being in position to pick the best QB in the draft in '18 doesn't sound too bad.. neither does bowles getting canned..

if the '17 is already destined to be a fail, sign me up for epic fail.. especially if we get a legitimate look at what petty & hackenberg bring to the table..

you're a bit late to the party.. gmf already cleared up why perry hit the market.. it was because of a clause written into his contract.. i'm not here to tell you what to believe but i'm going to go out on a limb & say team perry had that clause written into the contract, not the packers..

Just answering your reply.
Is it a red flag that we released Marshall? Or that Cincinnati didn't re sign Whitmore? Sometimes it's not a fit, plus with having to manage cap room, business decisions have to be made. I don't think that's a red flag.

I get what you are saying BUT we didn't just release Brandon Marshall as a business move he asked to be released kinda different...

and on the Whitmore thing:

I'd be good with that. This team really needs to be blown up and they become a "TON" more attractive to GM's, coaches and players with the first pick in the draft (especially if Sam Darnold becomes the consensus number one pick) and lots of money to spend on free agency.
