La Canfora reporting they're in the lead for Hightower. Is his agent using the Jets as leverage, or are there legs to this. Hightower is a stud.
It would be a sweet deal if the Jets can land him. My only concern is his durability. He misses 3 games a year and he isnt even 30 yet.
Regardless, as optimistic as i am, not going to get my hopes up. Everytime it sounds like we're going to sign a player, they sign else where.
No,he would play inside. Mauldin and Lee will grow at outside. For a team that is showing no reservations at doling out big money for FA's, I'd be surprised if NE let's Hightower go. They appear to be all in next year.
With that said, NE usually has a ceiling on what they'll pay their own players. If the Jets offer more, don't be surprised if he ends up a Jet. I read he's an inside LB though. I wonder if he can play outside? Greater need there.
Agree.Who cares? Either the Jets land him, or they drive up the price for the Pats.
Whichever happens, it benefits the Jets.

How do we know BB isn't just driving up our costs. he has a history of letting players go or trading them ... I'd be careful. Anything more the $10 mil and I say pass. Just draft foster and let him and lee play. Cut Harris or ask him to take a pay cut to mentor the young guys and let him play only one down a series.
Hightower visiting with the Jets in NJ right now. Expected to leave sometime tomorrow. If he leaves without a contract, he's re-upping with NE.
27 years old. But I'll bet he's gonna ask for well over ten million a year to play for the Jets.
Unless there is a mondo huge delta between what NE and the Jets would pay I just don't understand why Hightower would "want" to sign with a bottom of the division team like the Jets. He's almost guaranteed to be in the post season and if the money is similar it should be a no brainer.
Jets are a long way from getting top FA's. Money is not enough and NY is no longer a big enough attraction. Winning is only thing that will change that. Jets are the new Browns.

I think you are wrong on every point... except winning
1. Money will always be a deciding factor, if it's enough
2. NY is always the biggest attraction - High profile players make and estimate of 25-50% of their salary in types of endorsement deals only afforded by NY
3. Winning only enhances everything else
4. We are no where near the Browns level.
With that said I rather build through the Draft and not be concerned with the FA market, yet!
We actually might be a slight notch below the Browns level right now. If I'm being objective and since neither team has any good options at QB I could argue the case the Browns might have a brighter future because of all their draft picks (9 of the top 65 over the next two years) and they don't have the Pats in their division. What it really amounts to who's first to get a franchise QB..
