The New York Giants, Los Angeles Chargers and Cleveland Browns have an interest in former New York Jets quarterback Geno Smith according to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network.
The Georgia native was a second-round selection out of West Virginia in 2013. Since that day, he has played in 33 games. However, he has played in just three games over the past two seasons. In those opportunities, he completed 35-of-56 passes for 391 yards, three touchdowns and two interceptions.
The Chargers and Giants would both be backup roles. However, Smith could potentially compete for a starting job in Cleveland.
Best option to get a better compensatory pick would be if he goes to Cleveland... Regardless of length contract the value would need to be in the $8 M range annual... If he starts and plays the whole season as the starter we could receive a 4th, but if he is successful it could elevate to a 3rd...
If he goes to the Chargers or Giants expect nothing more than a 5th unless the starter gets hurt it may become a 4th but that is highly unlikely...
