Just curious what is your take on the absolute needs of this team

As I see it right now listed below are the areas I think is an absolute need for us... NOT a speculative upgrade at the position but an absolute NEED

In order of priority

1. QB
2. CB
3. PASS Rusher
4. ILB (coverage)
5. TE
6. RB

I hear a lot of talk about we need Safeties, we need a #1 WR, WE need a C but I think the play at all those positions were fine last year with the exception of safety.. Now as far as safety goes I think we had a 3 fold problem last year at Safety and it wasn't because of the safeties.... I think it was 1. poor pass rush. 2. Awful CB play and 3. Scheme, to much fiddling last year to compensate for #1 and 2. In my opinion. In 2015 with decent CB play and a decent pass rush the S position play was great for us..So I am not buying into the narrative of Pryor and Gilchrist digressing as much... Definitely a product of the poor play all around them IMO

This year we are a complete mess. in first round I wouldnt take a QB. First round take the best player on the board & RB Fournette looks like that player for Jets. Hard to put biggest needs in a draft. Jets dont have great WR's any more so we could have Brady but without WR to pass to it does no good. Yes Jets needs a LB & Safety & is a top priority for Defense. But Jets just cant make a good choice at those positions. 3 GM's took Gholston-Coples-Pryor -Milliner in first round & all 4 are BUSTS. So priority based on draft this year, is RB Fournette if gone take best Defensive player on board. Draft a QB in 2nd & if none worthy take a top CB or Safety if either dropped out of first. Just no way to rank needs for Jets because we need 15 starters of 22 positions. We have 7 starters ,3 on Defense & 4 on Offense. QB is number one need for Jets, just not that QB in Draft, maybe next years Draft there is better QB's (2) that Jets dart might land. But Jets dart board Drafts has missed QB's since 1965 Namath. CB is no way my number 2 of needs, WR-RB-Passrushing sack master are all above CB. TE is below CB. Jets are going to be worse than last year & I'm fine with it as long as Jets can make the right decision Drafting a QB next years Draft. But Jets havent been able to do that in over 55 years. Lets see if MM passes on a top RB fournette for some high risk CB. He hasnt impressed me yet other than Williams the number 1 ranked player falling to him at 6th. Williams the 1 and only pick MM got right since being GM.

I wasn't really asking about what we should draft or past failures or how good our draft choices have been... Just curious as to what the needs are on this team... With the said I would disagree with you on the WR's on this team... Brady would have a field day with this WR group, he's done so with a lot less. Also thisis a great CB class... I think there are more great CB's in this draft than RB's and at #6 I think it's coin flip on who the BPA is between say Founette and Lattimore... With that said I would take Fournette myslef...

Everything starts with the offensive line. It opens holes for even average runners and keeps an adequate quarterback in an upright position - giving him time to find targets. With an offense that can do that, it keeps the defense off the field for rest/ in game adjustments.
O line first. then second. Then BPA (needs include DB, DL, and offense.)

I agree.. I think the signing of Beachum will make this OL much better, But I am not against drafting a C a lil later in the draft and more depth to groom

  1. immediate is Corner, not just one we need two... but along with corner our safety position is a mystery...
  2. next after Corner have to say a well rounded tight end which will help the running game as well be a security option for the quarterback...
  3. left tackle, center are major needs to continue the development and continuity of the offense... not having depth throughout the line is troubling...
  4. inside linebacker we need a run stopper, Lee is coverage...
  5. quarterback is always a need but nowadays without the proper coaching staff in place a qb won't solve the deficiencies in the offense... this off season will tell us more about this position...
  1. running backs are a dime a dozen, too many options available not to worry about finding one when we need too...
  2. edge rushers not necessarily because our front 7 is capable without anyone specialist, mind you if we solve our secondary will help them collapse the pocket and set the edge...

  1. QB - Easily the lion share and mother of all needs. The holy grail has alluded us for decades..
  2. LB - Edge Pass Rusher - Can't win without getting to the other teams QB, especially Brady (see first half of SuperBowl)
  3. Left Tackle - Protect your most valuable asset
  4. CB - This is a throwing league
  5. Safety - Think of how a good to great safety has changed secondary's in the past
  6. TE - Isn't it about time FFS
  7. ILB - Harris is almost moving backwards
  8. WR - Young talent but no Mr. reliable like Brandon Marshall
  9. RB - Powell is way under rated but we can start grooming

I agree with this for the most part, but just as high a consideration as absolute needs is what is available in the draft. You cannot reach because a certain position is an absolute need? In this seasons draft, TE seems to be strong enough and where that has been a such a glaring weakness for so long, this years draft would be a great time to take one.

For me, if I am doing the picking, I would first look to trade down and accumulate a few more picks. I would NOT want to trade down so far that a QB like Watson or Kizer are now off the board. After I trade back, I want a QB or TE depending on which is the best player available. With increased picks in the 2nd round, I am looking for either an OL (Possibly Robinson slips??) or a TE (if I didn't get Howard in the 1st). I would take a chance on Jake Butt. Or possibly both in the 2nd round if Mac plays his cards right. To me, that is an excellent draft where everything would need to fall the right way...........

I'm still confused as to why everyone thinks an edge pass rusher is necessary to combat Brady. He is most bothered by an inside pass rush, when there is a defender in his face. He gets the ball away too quickly for an edge rusher to reach him before he delivers his pass.
Not saying the Jets don't need one (although that need may decrease if the team goes to a 4-3), but not to defend against Brady.

Yeah I don't want to reach for any player anywhere. and I know not all of these needs will be filled or even should attempted to be filled in this draft... gonna take 2 offseasons.. at least

The CB position is still a need, but less now with the Claiborne signing. I believe we can get a quality CB in the 3rd round in this draft. Position is very deep with talent.

I think with the signing of Caliborne and Beachum. We can take BPA in each round now. Biggest need at the moment right now is probably TE. We have no one. Lol

OJ Howard @6. This guy is rising up draft boards. I wouldn't hate that pick. He looks like a potential star. Also, I think ASJ is a viable #2 option. He's only suspended for 2 games.

Love the pick of Howard, but not at 6.... That would be a waste. based on every mock I have seen, Howard could be had somewhere between 17 and 32? Now, if Mac traded down and still got Howard at say 15? I would be ecstatic with that..........

I would also love trading down, selecting a QB.... Watson or Kizer later in the 1st round, then taking JAKE BUTT in the 2nd round. I would love that. Honestly, if it weren't for Butt having an injury, I think he'd be going top 5..................

I like the Jake Butt pick in the 2nd, but I'm not too confident in any of these QB's projected in the 1st round. I'd rather roll with our young guys, and probably have a shot at some better QB prospects next year in the 1st round.

As long as we don't screw it up and not suck enough.
